3g has no definition about simultaneous voice/data and I don't think 4g does either. Verizon could support simultaneous on 3g if they really wanted, but it would require the device to use two connections at once. Its not efficient and as of a year ago, data/voice was not in big demand. Upgrades tend to lag between carriers. For example, Tmobile was on 2G forever. Verizon rolled out EVO 4 or 5 years ago in full force. ATT and Tmobile then rolled out HSPA/HSPA+ a couple years later, which was faster. Now Verizon is rolling out LTE, which is much faster than HSPA+. ATT and Sprint will begin rolling out LTE later this year. I would expect by early 2013, LTE Advanced, the next upgrade for LTE, will begin to be rolled out by all the carriers. In all honesty, all of this is hype. If you have a poorly designed phone and/or on a poorly designed network, speeds don't matter. Carriers have suckered people into buying these $30 data plans and many of them do not need it or never use it. I know many many 30-40 year olds who's 10 year olds know more on how to operate their smart phone than they do.
Data/voice is now enabled on Verizon 3g. I can post a video if anyone doesn't believe me. It's only enabled on the thunderbolt on the moment, and yes on 3g, not 4g because obviously you can do that due to LTE having a separate radio in the phone. Sprint has a tentative agreement right now with some vendors but I don't believe it'll be this year. They're still deciding if they're gonna use the 800 mhz spectrum from the iDEN towers. It'll be pretty good for building penetration, close to VZW at 700 mhz.
Yeah, Carly FTW. 'The hell these guys talkin' about... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=196253
Yes, I knew about the data/voice on the Thunderbolt for awhile, but last I read, it was going to be activated at a later date. They made it possible just to say Verizon can do it now. Im sure Verizon is waiting to do it across the board once they can do voice and data on the same channel (Of course, voice will have to be VOIP). No use tying up extra channels so people can tune out their significant other/boss while they surf the web.
I've heard great things about the phone, but my main concerns are this. 1) Does it play nice with Macs? Currently, my Samsung Vibrant isn't supported on OSX, so I can't get froyo 2.2... pisses me off. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of the functionality of the phone by not having it linked to a computer to perform backups, etc. 2) Is the battery life good? Currently, the Vibrant's battery dies for me after about 5-6 hours, it's pathetic. 3) Is tethering free/unlimited on Sprint? And does the Evo support it?
It's not a tentative agreement. The deal was signed months back and the work has already begun. Sprint is also planning to launch their new CDMA PTT (push-to-talk) solution THIS year, which means that it is likely that Sprint LTE tower signals could start going live on the 800MHz band as early as next year.
Nexus S won't have a qHD 960x540 display, dual core CPU, 1 GB of RAM and autostereoscopic 3D with dual cameras. This thing is nuts. It's like the Optimus 3D on steroids. Nexus S is a nice phone, but it absolutely pales in comparison to the Evo 3D.
Disgusting, the DoJ has been sleeping for the last 15 years as much as the SEC to have let this and past acquisitions happen to the point where the American consumer has so few choices. I'm supposed to happy with three overpriced and bloated companies? If there were a cheap option for unlimited data only, I'd use that that with Google Voice as my permanent cell phone service. The history of the US telecommunications industry has been nothing but brief moments of competition always succumbing to corporate behemoths that stifle free market innovation and provide mediocre service. Maybe T-Mobile will have better call quality or fewer dropped calls, but at what cost? The current voice and data plan charges are ridiculous. I pay well over $5000 for TV, internet, and cell phone service over a 24-month period, and that is just the base package for all three services. Here are 2 SNL clips from back in the day where Lily Tomlin (as Ernestine the Telephone Operator) effectively shows what the all-powerful 'Telephone Company' can do with consumers given the amalgamation of so many different services. http://www.hulu.com/watch/4163/saturday-night-live-ernestine
Interesting. From what I recall sprint was still trying to figure out if they were going to do LTE. With clearwire or wholseale provider light squared? It'll be interesting to see how ptt works out on cdma. I only see it being successful with businesses and it'll finally bring decenf data quality. Sprint could've made wimax work if the FCC didn't make it a condition to operate a wireless network on the 2.5 ghz band. If there's anything sprint has going for them is the fact that they have spectrum.
cyanogenmod.com.... get that and you will have the best experience with your phone.... currently the evo run with froyo.... but this rom is gingerbread.
Yeah that and there's probably an update.zip file you ccan place in he root of your SD card and update by going into stock recovery mode. Should work on mac, just drag and drop
