I think part of the problem is that he does that too much. The players play like they are scared to make mistake, and not trying to do what it takes to win.

JVG should loosen up a little, and let the guys have some freedom to find their game. That might encourage somebody to step up, and take some chances and play with initiative on the floor.

I believe JVG sees them making mistakes and believes the way to get more out of these guys is to get on them to do things correctly. He should let them know, but if it makes them play scared that isn't effective.

I have no proof of this other than my guess at some of the reasons why they are playing the way they are.

Okay here is the whole story:

I went to the game with three friends. By the way I dont drink so its not the alcohol that is talking. I am generally rowdy.

Anyways, we were sitting behind the score board in the upper level on the Rockets side in the beginning. As we started to fall behind I started the chant "Fire Gundy!" or "Phil Jackson". Of course my three boys followed and a few other people in our section were laughing and saying how Van Gundy did suck.

I am as big a Rockets fan as there is and I absolutely HATE the lack of effort the Rockets were showing tonite. We were really loud up there and Keith Jones looked up there to see who was screaming.

Then by fourth we wanted to go down behind the Rockets bench, but were afraid security would throw us out. So we sat there on top still screaming and booing like crazy folks.

With about 5 min left in the game I said screw it, at the most security will just tell us no. So we walk down there and I just walk by security as if I owned the freakin place. Dont act suspicious and they wont ask you. So we go right behind the Rockets bench. Maybe third row. Van Grumpy was right in front of me. Of course everybody was quite as hell down there. So me and my boys at the same time got up and went totally totally nuts, "FIRE GUNDY"!!! Over and over again. Of course everybody started looking at us. Finally Van Gundy looked directly in my eyes and I told his ass "to go back to NY where he belonged, cause he SUCKS!!!!" Told him to take his boy Patrick Ewing with him. Of course Patrick motions to a security guard. The security kind of stands there not knowing what to do. Then he comes up to us and the crowd behind us starts booing him!!!

He was a nice old dude and told us to "calm down". I told him "I paid my money and I dont think I am doing anything wrong, so if you want to throw me out go ahead". He just stood there smiling and said "I feel your pain." That of course gave us the green lite to go totally nuts. We kept our chant going on and on. Van Grumpy kept looking at me, Patrick kept looking at us. The whole bench (except the players who were probably chanting the same thing in their hearts) was looking at us. Few people behind us started lauging and getting into it a little bit as well. The look Van Gundy gave me was priceless. He looked like he either wanted to eat me or sit down right there and cry. I usually wouldn't be proud of making another human being cry, but this a-hole has made me cry enough by destroying the Rockets.

Anyways we kept our chant going in the hall ways after the game.

So if the Rockets or Van Gundy turn it around from this point on I want full credit damnit!!!

Man, this is not cool! Not cool at all!

I understand your pain, I was among the group didn't want the JVG hiring before last season, still don't like his way of coaching. But he is part of the Rockets now, you just don't turn to against your team in public, especially when they were in the battle.

falling 15 pts behind with 5 minutes to go and not showing any interest of getting back doesn't count as "in the battle".

but JVG wasn't playing, right? If the players don't give the effort, then call them out, not JVG! Look, I didn't want to hire the guy, I still don't like the way the guy coaches, but I'll support him as long as he is the coach of the Rockets.

JVG had no plan to implement what is needed to win the game. He is to blame! if he fails to motivate his players night in night out, he is to blame. I am sensing that the whole team has no interest in playing for JVG, that has to be his fault.
