The situation reminded me a lot of the Astros-Phillies game, when they DIDN'T send the runner on a similiiar gap-shot that would have tied the game. Alas, Lidge ended up saving the game, and it looked like it cost the Phillies. I think when Mansolino decided to send him, it was at the point when Patterson was still running for the ball... and then Corey made a pretty fast slide move to field/throw the ball in one motion (which was they key to that relay throw). I have no problem with the send (given that the ball looked like it was going to the wall), and I have no problem with the charging of the catcher (the plate was blocked, he had the ball 2 full seconds before Gipson)... but I do have a problem with the way the 'Stros offense decided to shut it down from the 3rd-8th innings. The way they were hitting the ball early last night, you figured this would be similiar to the other game they shalacked Rusch... now they have to find a way to do it against much better pitchers (but, I still believe).
Dierker was talking during Lamb's at bat that with how quickly Dempster was getting the ball out of his hands, it was going to be pretty tough to steal a base.
It will be fun as long as the Astros do what they have done for most of the season...which is bounce back and put forth a superb game. I wasn't having too much fun last night, though. I was pissed that our offense failed to show up for the most part yet again.
i understand...just don't let that get in the way of enjoying the astros, baseball and minute maid park...and a chance to see something remarkable.
Did you hear the caller b****ing about Drayton sitting behind home plate because he doesn't get rowdy like Mark Cuban?
Well, we need 2 of 3 to advance if Philly wins out. i hope we win the next 2 with Andy and Roger going. It's only fitting that they would come through for us in our time of need. As far as a caller getting on Drayton for not being rowdy or whatever, give me a break. The guy is an old man. I've seen him clap. It's stupid.
We are in a great position. Much better than last year. We either win it or lose it. But at least we have our three best deciding what happens. This will be a lot of fun. The psychics on Cold Pizza agreed that the Phillies would win and the Astros would endur something catastrophic. Ha ha. Could happen tho'. But I won't let that get me down if it does. This team has been great to watch. They did the unthinkable...2 years in a row. I like our chances against anyone. The offense prob won't produce, but who thought it would even do this much, but the best part, we don't need it. We have Clemens, Pettite, and Oswalt.
Found this in the chronicle: "Open for business Thursday's game was played with the roof open at Minute Maid Park for the first time since June 1, thanks to cooler temperatures and a need for the grass to get some sun. The Astros are 15-10 this season with the roof open. Because the roof was closed for four consecutive days last week due to Hurricane Rita, team officials opted to keep it open Thursday and likely again today. It will be closed for afternoon games Saturday and Sunday." This can't be right can it? 25 games this year with the roof open? Ive watched or attended just about every game this year and I can only remember the roof being open twice before last night. (On opening day, and that day game early this year that Lamb won with a 9th inning double). I'd prefer them to open the roof more often, even during the 'hot' months. I think the breezes coming in are alot more comfortable than an a/c that really doesn't do much. Don't know about the other areas of the park but in the upper deck where I sit it's always stifling hot with the roof closed.
The roof was open virtually every day for the first month of the season, and for much of May (until the heat started coming around). Charlie P actually pointed this out at the beginning of the year, and because we had a relatively dry April/May, the roof was actually opened MORE than in past years.
I saw those tarot card readers as well on Cold Pizza, It is funny to me how they both said the Astros were going to endure something catastrophic and that it was only good things for the Phillies. I would definately be let down if the Astros dont pull this out, but I BELIEVE. Plus Cold Pizza sucks.
i'm too into this sh*t. I need to learn how to calm down. IT'S SO HARD, THOUGH! I WANT US TO WRAP THIS UP! PREFERRABLY, I DON'T WANT TO DROP DEAD IN THE PROCESS!
