I'm talking strictly AL with respect to save percentage. I should have qualified that since the Astros are in the AL. Giles was 34-38 and Kimbrel was 35-39. If you want to drop down to less than 15 saves, you may find a few higher. This year Kimbrel is 15-17 so Giles's percentage has passed him. Regardless, a 91% save percentage is something I'm willing to live with. One question - If the 4 run disaster at NY had never occurred, would your opinion of Giles be much higher? Because that one game interrupted an outstanding stretch of end results.
If that game in NY hadn't happened, we really don't know how any of his appearances since then would have gone.
Seattle got Colome and Span for virtually nothing, 2 prospects not even in Seattle’s Top 30, and they had a weak system to begin with. Hope that market holds, then it would make more sense for Houston to add.

One game doesn't matter much. Does Giles have a skill that allows hard contact to usually be hit at defenders? If so, he should go back to just throwing fastball down Kirby instead of bringing back his slider. Edit: I may be biased as I just can't think of anyone that survived long term on limiting walks while not getting Ks, grounders, pop ups, and weak contact. Up until recently, that was Giles this season.
One thing that is seemingly overlooked is that he is not getting behind in counts and forced to groove pitches. It's just weird that posters are waiting/expecting for him to fail rather than appreciating the success he has had the majority of this regular season, especially after the strained back.
I'm happy the Astros have had success when Giles has pitched. I appreciate the success he's had the last couple of games and hope he is back to normal. On Giles grooving pitches, that's all he's done most of this season. Stats say he's only grooving about 11%, but it seems much higher even though that is still absolutely horrible.

Fwiw one of them is still considered a prospect. Moore was their number ~8 prospect last year and Colome is probably too expensive for the rays for how meh he is
One salient point I read about that trade was that because Cano got suspended without pay, the M's suddenly gained $12m in salary room with which to acquire expensive veterans. That's nearly exactly the amount of salary they took on with Colome and Span considering ~1/3 of the season is over and the Giants are paying $2m of Span's 2018 salary. Point being prospects were not the only consideration in the return. The Astros will certainly factor in how much money they want to take on in any trade.

Since Marwin and Gattis are FA next season should they be on the trade block? They both are likeable players, but we can not afford to keep everyone. Plus we have young talent waiting to get a chance.
I'm telling you Coach Cora would be absolutely aroused at the idea to add Marwin. Since they dumped off Hanley there were supposedly a sentence stating he would like to get a Marwin Gonzalez type player. And would love to have Marwin on this team next year. I would be very intereasted ro see if you could offer Marwin, fisher and J.B. Bokuskas for Andrew Benintendi. Pain for pain. We help them they help us. It won't happen but would be a trade I would look at
I wonder if the Astros might flip Hoyt similar to what they did with Fields a few years ago. There are several teams with a desire to contend that have been hurt by their BP. Hoyt is nice depth but he's at best the 9th reliever on the team, and I'm not sure he's significantly better than other options the Astros have in the minors like James, McCurry, Guduan, etc. It would take a rash of injuries to put him in line for pitching in critical situations. If a team like the Indians or Nationals have an intriguing guy in XST that they'd give up for Hoyt, that might be worth exploring.
