If they can't compete with the Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees in the off-season......and can't compete with them at the deadline.......then they might as well call a spade a spade. Stop ****ing with the fans, and teasing us with all these "almost" deals. Just come out and say, "We can't afford this ****. The end." I would respect that a hell of a lot more than Luhnow coming out and saying, "I was disappointed. I thought we had it!"

As I said before, he's only been a buying-at-the-trade-deadline GM for 3 years.

He's got very little experience there compared to every other contending team's GM's. If he were one of his own prospects (in GM land), he'd still be at A ball right now figuring it out... with an upcoming promotion to AA to end the year, then a full year at AAA, then a following July call-up to avoid super 2!

I'm actually optimistic that he'll be fine... if anything, they need to acquire/consolidate more mid-level prospects for deadline deals in the future... that way they can supplement bulk in place of rank, given that their higher ranks are going to be worth more than other team's ranks.

Dude, WE DON'T. We have the #22 ranked bullpen in the Majors. Yes, players need to get healthy. But McCullers makes THREE pitchers that have all had to go BACK on the DL for recurring injuries. Health is not guaranteed, and this is NOT the same team that we saw in May and June.

I think he's healthier then either LMJ or Keuchel will be over the next 2 years.... but by that time, we better hope Martes has fully taken over as staff ace, and Whitley/Perez are knocking at the door.

Interesting. I'd take a tipjar bet Gray vs. Keuchel if you're interested (most games started in 2018-2019?)

I don't think questioning lunhow is unreasonable .

When you look at what he has done building the farm and current core , it's not exceedingly brilliant .

He gut what was left of the team and had the number one pick three years in a row ... Then when he failed to sign Aiken ( good call due to injury concerns) he had the 2 and 5 pick next year .

I know the draft is a crapshoot , but with the new slot system in place (2012 was the first year ) the advantages for picking number 1 overall skyrocketed.

After 4-5 years of rebuilding ( 3 under lunhow) I expect the Astros to be good. The previous GM also contributed despite contraints placed on him by drayton.

What will decide if lunhow is a top GM or not will be his ability to maintain a decent farm system and compete at the same time .

The Astros *should* have plenty of $ to spend . Our team's payroll was nothing for 3-4 years . If crane isn't willing to pay to keep Correa / altuve etc then as an organization we are ****ed . This one is out of lunhows hands .

That being said , we absolutely have the ammo to win now . Lunhow has to make the right calls and right moves ; otherwise those years of intentionally sucking are worthless.

    Problem with that is....

While Correa, Springer and Altuve will likely repeat their production year after year

Guys like Reddick, Marwin, even Jake with the power, are all likely having career years....like someone said earlier, of not now....when?

I fully accept your condemnation, as I certainly had it coming to me. If you're going to take out your anger on someone, as I said, I will gladly be the recipient.

    Go Astros!

(or, maybe today, it should be: "Go Astros?")

Seriously next trading deadline Luhnow should send Sig Mejdal to do the deals.

That guy is very funny. He can regale the GMs with his jokes and NASA stories while taking their aces off their hands.

Same thing was said of Morey. GMs didn't want to deal with him for fear of being fleeced by him. So he gets Harden and gets him to recruit FAs for him. Relationships matter.

Jim Crane too must not be that hands-on making calls to team owners about players he would like to get. So it's Luhnow on his own.

    And just to add

Altuve, Springer and Keuchel were already here for him. Yes just three guys, but two of the three MVP level guys and a Cy Young guy. 3 of our top 5

Luhnow has done a good job, but those that think he can't be questioned are nuts

Good to see you have so much faith in your team. I mean, they're only the best team so far in Astros history, so I guess it's time to write them off in July.

The Astros are STILL the betting favorite to win the AL and only behind the Dodgers in their odds to win the World Series. Same as they were yesterday before 1000 moves. Yankees didn't even jump the Indians.

Dropped from 2-1 to 3-1 today though....the betting public will move it higher too so if you want to bet it wait a bit

I got them at 10-1 from before the season....would feel a lot better if we had

Gray, or Yu, or Cingrani, or Robertson, or Quintana, or Wilson, or JDM, or Reed.......

Apologies. You're entitled to your opinion, and we both want the Astros to win it all this year.

The reality is we can all speculate about what deals could've and should've been made.

But none of us knows exactly what deals Luhnow had to consider. Or whether Crane was on board.

Nothing is easier than for us to say Team X should've taken our Prospect Y because, well, we say so.

But again, to each their own.

LMAO at all the posters saying don't make moves just to make moves.. I guess we are smarter than every other contending team.

It will interesting to find out later what deals were in the table, who other teams wanted, etc.
