Honestly let's grab gray, even if we slightly overpay. Making a trade like this is a clear cut message to the team and fans. It's time, we're going for it.
If they were close to a deal for him at all, he wouldn't be pitching today. I don't think he goes anywhere.
That's not true. If the deal is done ok. If they are in talks he would still pitch. Another solid outing increases his value. Also it shows that you are serious about walking away from a trade still, keeps your leverage.
Everyone keep an eye on their bullpen today. Maybe...but then you're also risking injury if they're in the middle of something.
I really am hoping mostly for bullpen depth. I think we can cobble together a good 3rd and 4th starter by piggybacking so they don't have to face 3rd turn through the order. And we have top end bullpen guys. But we really need more arms to get through the regular season while keeping our top guys fresh. If the asking price for pitchers like Britton and Gray is too high so be it.
Good pickup for the Royals. These WC teams about to battle it out. Would kind of worry me if I'm Astros.
Vague but at least the Padres realize they're not getting Eloy Jimenez for a non-elite lefty reliever. Not all systems are created equal and the Padres would do pretty well to get a potential 2nd division regular in a guy like JD Davis and maybe a low-A lotto pick.
Per Twitter, Crasnick said he was wrong. Padres not moved an inch. Padres were reported as wanting a Miller package earlier so sounds like back to that.
It was silly to ask for that then and silly to ask for it now. Just another example of people having such tunnel vision on the idea that the asking prices are going up that they end up with some irrational price. People were saying Fulmer from Detroit would require basically the hamels and sale returns combined.
Musgrove is an example of what happens when you overvalue prospects. At this point does he have any trade value?
When was he ever involved in any major trade discussions? I don't even recall him being considered a top tier talent, but a mild surprise when he pitched average last season.
Umm pretty sure last year before his call up he was considered one of our top pitching prospects and he was a guy we were reluctant to include in any trade. Luhnow was even quoted as saying he expected Joe to be a long term starter. I suppose that's not thinking highly of the kid. Too bad it looks like he was wrong.
