Some really good takes on here and some really bad ones. The **** about Paredes aging curve and skills diminishing is laughably stupid. He’s 26. We have him for 3 more years. That’s his absolute peak apex time as a big leaguer. His batted ball profile sucks. So does Altuve and Bregman. They don’t hit the ball particularly hard (for super stars). He does the most important things necessary to be a good hitter- get on base, don’t strike out, but most importantly pull side fly balls- the most powerful weapon in baseball. And he’s coming to a park that rewards that better than any park in the majors (other than maybe RF at Yankee stadium). He’s a safe bet for 8 or 10 War over the next 3 seasons, doesn’t make a ton, and fills an important hole with Bregman gone. They like the pitcher. They are awesome with targeting pitchers and unlocking the best version of themselves. He has 5 years of club control left. I’m trusting them on that. I really like the minor leaguer. I bet he ends up really good. He had as good a walk year in college and introduction to pro baseball as you can have.
I would be really interested to see a list of prospects traded with the following 3 characteristics: 1. Position player drafted in the top half of the 1st round 2. Traded within a year of being drafted 3. wRC+ >120 as a pro I bet the track record for those prospects is really good. Just a hunch.
Uh...yeah. I'm pretty sure your hunch is good. You basically just described every top-shelf non-internatinal IF prospect on Earth.
And we got that (plus good floor setter with 3 years left in the majors at reasonable price) and a pitcher we like (and we are good at targeting those guys) and people still don’t like the deal. It was a rental dudes hating on this trade.
Top 50, top 100 and a lotto ticket I think. Or OF version of Paredes, top 50, something interesting to us. that would be what I’d look for. Or I heard Kyle Tucker is in his walk year…
For Framber+minor league kid? 1 MLB-ready starting OF 1 MLB-ready utility bench player 1 MLB top 30, 50, whatever? prospect 1 rando minor league wildcard
You guys can thank me for this. I had a layover flight yesterday through Philly and changed it to Chicago. I'd like to think I had a hand in the universe. Can you imagine if I had my layover through Vegas.
Depends on minor league kid from us, but if your are talking about a prospect on the level of whitcomb- sure- sounds about right.
Love your optimism. Still didn't get enough for a top 10 player, even on the last year of his contract.
If they weren't able to get 2 top 10 prospects, or a #1 prospect like Shaw they should've held onto Tucker and signed Palanco.
They need to absolutely nail the Framber trade. Maybe to Boston for Casas and a minor leaguer they like.
