why? I think everyone deserves a second chance for redemption, but just because the peace bond was granted doesn't mean it didn't happen. It's kind of like when a witness in a mob case does not show up to testify.
The best possible result for Osuna to get. Quite courageous of him to attend, must have factored into the court decision. It means he can continue to pitch for the Astros. On to the playoffs I think we'll see McCullers tonight.
I predict McCullers will start/open tomorrow. They haven't announced the starter yet. James, I think they try to get 5 from him, then piece the next 4 using other guys.
It's stupid that domestic violence has potential to throw away careers in the first place. Perhaps for habitual offenders that are proven to be completely in the wrong, but a couple of flimsy prove offenses.. please. DV is nothing like child, animal, or elderly abuse. That faction is truly innocent victims.
Luhnow paid off the accuser, that's how he knew the charges would get dropped. He's always one step ahead of everyone else.
Well, not quite. DV victim can be innocent as well. Dynamics are more complicated as complainants are in a relationship with the perpetrator. They need the financial support, children are involved etc. Counseling, not ostracism or job loss, will help both parties deal with their relationship problems.
The woman had long since returned to Mexico. When she filed the case and Osuna got suspended with no pay, I presume the financial support also stopped. I read from a TOR fan the woman allegedly confronted Osuna about an alleged affair with a Canadian reporter. That's how the fight happened. Osuna had also been drinking that time, thus the court has a prohibition against alcohol for him. Osuna was a star with the Blu Jays at age 20. I really think it was too much too soon for him to handle.
Nothing that the Astros communication environment won't solve Even when Lance starts, how often does he go deep, like 3rd time through the rotation deep? Starters of course get paid top money, but he really is best suited for tandem pitching.
DV in general is a terrible thing. I just always wonder what circumstances led to the violence. It shouldn't solely be "he hit, he's terrible".. case closed.
From what he's said recently, he has bought in to a bullpen role this postseason. "I've done it before, I can do whatever they ask..." I think he can dominate, if he can locate.
Good news. Happy about this. And whatever happened I hope he learned from it and will be a better person moving forward.
I think she is probably she is looking out for best self interest. If he gets suspended he doesn't get paid which means she isn't getting paid either. I am guessing MLB did some investigating before giving him such a lengthy suspension. MLB players union is not the NFLPA. If he was innocent I am sure they would have fought tooth and nail for him. She didn't even call the cops: https://globalnews.ca/news/4196728/roberto-osuna-holding-cell/ The source said that police saw “significant injuries” on the alleged victim, who provided a video statement to officers. It was the concierge at the front desk of the residence who called police, the source added. Ron Waksman, vice-president of news content for Global News and Corus Radio, told Global News Radio 640 Toronto’s Kelly Cutrara Wednesday afternoon that there has been “a little bit of criticism, more like feedback” in response to the publication of the photo.
All this means is she was too scared to put up a fight , wanted payments and a continuing relationship with the father of the child. This doesnt absolve anyone of anything considering she didnt even have the courage to call the cops, it was a 3rd party witness. For his career and PR, this was the decision they wanted and he knew she wouldnt say anything so stuck to the technicality basis. The same PR that has aggressively taken down the reports of what the victim looked like, the accounts and pictures from any online source. Money talks, always has. So whatever chance this is... 2nd, 8th, 25th of his, all he has to do is not repeat it and hell be fine.
Wait...does a peace bond mean he is innocent or does it just mean they made a peace deal? Are they gonna smoke a peace pipe to seal the deal?
What are you talking about? What facts are you choosing to believe? Literally no one outside of Osuna's attorney and the DA handling the case know the facts (which is what made the initial media rhetoric on this case so frustrating, to me, at least). Not even the Judge is privy to the facts of case until a hearing or motion is raised. There is no regard for justice? Justice is under attack? That sounds silly. ADAs work tirelessly to come to the just outcome. We never "always believe the woman" and are always guided by the evidence and the facts. To me, this sounds like the old "he was charged, so he must have done something wrong". That is incorrect and reckless. I don't know the facts of the case. Maybe he did do something morally reprehensible. Maybe he broke the law but the case couldn't be proved. Who knows. But to insinuate he is not necessarily innocent because the case was dropped is just flat out wrong. Again, no one knows why the case was dropped. You're just speculating. You, nor anyone else, knows the merits of the case or why it was dropped.
I could not disagree with your statement more. To make such a blanket argument about something like this is unintelligent. Our family is friends with a woman who runs a domestic abuse shelter for women. Learning about the experiences of the women she helps is harrowing. Society should do more, not less to deal with this situation. Part of dealing with domestic abuse is making abusers and high profile abusers pay a real price for the damage they cause. Domestic abuse is more widespread than you think and certainly much more destructive and damaging than you are willing to concede. I grew up in a home where my mother was beaten up by her husband (not my father). It ruined her life for a long time and we were negatively impacted living in a violent home. Your judgment of what constitutes the "truly innocent victims" is probably all too common, but it's garbage.
Sorry for your bad experiences. I don't think my comment was absorbed. I was speaking on "habitual vs 1-2 incidents" of abuse. It's doubtful most of the victims in those shelters weren't abused habitually. I've personally never hit a woman, but the experiences I've heard from a couple of friends were incidents of the females pulling knives on them, daring them to hit them, and putting people in position for altercations with the "other man". Some women are more ghetto/aggressive than others. These are good-hearted guys messing with the wrong women. Fortunately, those relationships ended with all parties in good health. The women mostly return years later and admit they were wrong.
