The next deadline that matters is that a player has to be on your roster on 08/31 in order to qualify for the playoff roster (unless there is an injury exemption). I believe waiver trades can be made through the end of the season.
Maybe it gave the Cards and other teams the chance to see a little of him. The plan to move him has surely been going on in the background for a while. Even though it's a minor acquisition, teams still want to see the player to make sure he's moving well and what not.
Which is why Kepp getting injured may not have been the worst thing in the world. Blum has had some good ABs, including the bomb last night, and Tags thinks the Cards would have traded Mitchell Boggs to get him so there is some value in Geoff. I can see Blum being moved as soon as Kepp is ready to go and Manzella taking Blum's role.
Haha, I know, I got just a bit excited when I saw 23 and those numbers but still a good deal overall.
And thus ends the Pedro Feliz era. I am amazed that the Astros got anything for Pedro, given his age and lack of performance this year.
Didn't think about it from that perspective, but that's a very good point. You could do worse than Figgy as a spot-starter, 5th-guy, bullpen guy. Sure, maybe he only fetches a 25 year old that's still in A-Ball... but you never know. Luke Scott was a late-bloomer that has become a nice player... our own J.A. Happ was as well.
Rather keep Kepp, good veteran presence amongst the kids and a steady everyday 2nd baseman. Albert Cartwright is the closets 2nd base prospect we have and he is at CC. Any word if they might try to deal with the team that claimed him or they pulled him back?
I actually misread your previous post and was referring to Feliz. I suppose it could apply to Figueroa as well but I'm not as sure about what the plans are there.
Teams need a pitcher like Figueroa (or Moehler). Someone who can spot start and pitch long relief. Generally a veteran whose arm you don't mind ruining . Perhaps they want to see for themselves how effective he can be in case they want to sign him for next year. Optimally, he is the type of pitcher you want in the game in the 14th inning.
Favorite memory from Pedro Feliz? Thanks for getting us Carpenter from the Cards...unfortunately its the wrong Carpenter
That was kind of like the Andersen deal for Morey. The initial move didn't work out but Wade did well to minimize the damage.
