True. I just have little faith that Myers will have this caliber of season once again. Just a hunch on my part. Reminds me of the Kyle Lohse situation a couple of years ago. He had a career season in 2008 with the Cards at 29 years old and they give a long-term deal. Since then, he has been terrible.
i agree. i didn't realize myers was only 29. i say you trade him if you get the right offer, but if he can continue to pitch like this, he wouldn't be a bad deal for the team next year as a top of the rotation guy.
wallace era bumped to tonight. alysonfooter Wallace will wear No. 29 and will start tonight's game vs. MIL. Melancon placed on 40-man and will go to Round Rock. Paredes destination
At the trade deadline in 2008, the team was 50-57, 9 games out of the wildcard, with 7 teams ahead of them just in the wildcard race (4 of those teams were at least 7 games ahead of the Astros). While they closed the gap late in the season, I think they were a pretty good blow-it-up candidate at the trade deadline.
richardjustice: Just been told Astros won't trade Wandy Rodriguez or Brett Myers. Listened to offers. Got nothing they liked. #hounews
Disappointing if true, still plenty of time to make things happen though so hard for me to believe they have given up.
Berkman trade official: The New York Yankees announced the completion of the deal just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday, 24 hours after Berkman agreed to waive the no-trade clause in his contract, as per Major League Baseball rules. In exchange for Berkman, the Yankees sent Triple-A right-handed pitcher Mark Melancon and Jimmy Paredes, an infielder playing for the Single-A Charleston River Dogs, to the Houston Astros. The Yankees also received "cash considerations'' from the Astros, who will assume a portion of Berkman's remaining salary for this season and next season. Linky
I am not disappointed. Trading Wandy at the deadline would be selling low and giving up on him entirely. I think it makes more sense to let him pitch out the rest of the season and hope he continues to pitch like he has the last month or so. As for Myers, I don't want to trade him. He's pitching his ass off and deserves to return next season. One important consideration Ed Wade has to take into account is the effect trading Myers would have on the bullpen. He's been an innings-eating horse who effectively gives the bullpen an extra day of rest every time he takes the ball. With Roy gone and guys like Norris and Wright in the rotation, the team needs Myers to fill that role.
oh, so you must really be disappointed in wade and drayton for even considering trading them at the deadline. got it. either way, nobody gives a damn. your opinions are meaningless, and you are a miserable person.
Owners and GMs of non-contending teams (especially those who may not contend the next year as well) should always consider trading almost anyone at the deadline, but they should not make a trade if they don't feel they are getting equitable value.
lol. thanks. how many outs do you get in an inning again? and what are those 3 white squares that they put on the field called?
Why wouldn't they keep Wandy & Myers? Next season is a whole different ballgame. Doesn't Berkman want to resign? I mean look at Chris Johnson at 3B. Can Lyles be ready? Can Astros sign a top of the rotation pitcher? Are Lee, Bourn and Pence going to ALL have as miserable of a season as they are having now? Are the Astros going to get off to another horrible start? Will Brett Wallace step in and produce THIS year? And Happ looked great yesterday! I'll be excited again and probably overly-optimistic by the time next March rolls around. The atmosphere last night was great. 5-0 shutout and free Chic-fil-A. Beat that.
If they found a reasonable way to move Carlos Lee...even if it were for a bag of balls...I'd be all for signing Ed Wade to a lifetime contract.
How would they do that when Carlos has a full no-trade clause and has expressed no interest in waiving it? Better chance of me adding adding eight inches to my vert. I can touch the rim!
