Someone told me last night he heard Myers was going to the Yankees and Pence to the Tigers today.

Should be a fun, interesting day regardless.

I can't see Myers going to the Yanks now but then again they were on Lilly for a bit so that would make some sense.

I've heard Pence to Detroit and this morning a Braves fan said something about Atlanta...fun indeed.

OMFG, come on this is to easy...

AstrosCounty via @thescorer: Myers is owed a little over $1m the rest of this season. Get this done, Ed.

Now this is where Wade should be able to clean up, a pitcher with a 3.10 ERA for basically free??? Wade needs to play hardball on this one and fleece a contender. cough* Twins *cough

Joelsherman1 #Yankees thought Low-A prospect Paredes included in Berkman deal might never get defense in infield and have to be shifted to OF

Interesting... Justice just said on MLB Network that "there was a time yesterday I thought Myers was definitely gone".

No one was saying to build a team around that season, but there was no need to blow it up for 2008 (during the latter half of the season) either. Regardless of the flukiness, they did have a legitimate shot to make the playoffs.

They certainly should have done something last year.

He'll probably sent $750K along to whatever team trades for him.

Yankee fan checking in here. Melancon is a good high reward guy if he works out. There was a time where those of who follow the minors closely though this was the next closer. He has a bulldog mentality and really good stuff. He's fallen on hard times this year in the minors, but I still like what he brings to the mound. If he gets his stuff sorted out and regains his control, this guy could be a major bullpen piece, potentially a shut down closer.

Buster_ESPN Astros' currenting marketing pitch on Brett Myers is basically this: "Overwhelm us with a huge offer and maybe we'll consider it."

I don't mind this at all, play hardball and lets see how good the offers get. Wandy appears gone and I THINK Pence will go too.

I am not the biggest Pence fan but I don't he goes. I also don't think Wandy and Myers go either. Astros are probably asking for a arm and leg for both of them. This offseason should be interesting. I think they are going to do everything possible to move Carlos Lee and that includes paying paying like 60% to 75% of his salary. I also think

I'm fine with what they're doing with Myers, too. Either blow us away or we'll keep a relatively inexpensive pitcher who's pitching very well and is currently our staff ace.

This is technically true, but not entirely descriptive of the actual facts.

Myers has an $8 million mutual option for next year, with a $2 million buyout. If a team really wants to trade for Myers just for the rest of the year, they will be on the hook for both that $1 million for this year, as well as the $2 million buyout. And I'm not positive, but I think if the team exercises the option and Myers declines, he still gets the $2 million.

So the cost to acquire Myers for the rest of the season is about $3,000,000.

I know what you are saying but I don't know if paying $8 million dollars to a starting pitcher on a read bad team is a great idea. Wandy is probably going command something around $6 or $7 million in arbitration next year. He and Myers both hit free agency in 2011. I guess they could move both of them next trade deadline but I don’t see Myers value ever being higher. Also, I get the feeling Ed Wade is going to make a dumb move and give a long-term extension Myers if he keeps him.

At 29, it's quite possible that Myers is hitting his stride. $8 million, even for a bad team, is not bad for what will likely be your #1 or #2 starter...especially when the payroll will be down to around $40 million. Even @ $8 million, he's a bargain at the trade deadline next season if he's putting up the same kind of numbers.

All I'm really saying is that the Astros are in a great position in regards to Myers. Ask for the moon, as we've been saying, and see if someone bites. If not, we keep him and decide later to offer him the option for 2011. If not he becomes a free agent and possibly a 2nd round pick.
