Bidding war coming if Dunn goes to the Chi Sox? @richardjustice: Yankees, Ray, Red Sox and Tigers appear to be most likely destination for Lance Berkman if dealt. Berkman probably prefers Yankees. #hounews
I'd love it if Berkman came out with statement saying he'd rather go elsewhere, just so he can stick it to the writer of wrongs one last time.
@ed_price: There is buzz about the #WhiteSox going for #Astros Lance Berkman. He has .874 OPS vs RHP. I would love to see a Berkman/Wandy package going to Chicago for prospects.
@SI_JonHeyman: #chisox have looked at brett myers, as nightengale said, chicago wants a hitter (dunn?) and pitcher Puma/Myers package???
The Chi Sox's beat writer said the Dunn/Jackson/Hudson 3 way deal was on hold for a BIGGER deal...Myers and Puma would solve their problems VERY quickly.
Puma/Myers package??? Myers should bring back more than Berkman at this point. Neither will be an Astros by the time Ed gets this thing turned around, so they both should go to the highest bidder. Myers trade value may never be higher.
Not that I want to be the Pirates or anything but this "seller" thing is pretty fun to follow however I am sure it gets old after say 1 season lol
When you're doing it for 18 years, yeah, I imagine it gets old. If the Astros do this thing right, this should be the only season...other than trying to get rid of Carlos Lee in the future.
I will say this Dan Hudson will NOT be starting tonight for the Sox so whatever direction the W/Sox go in trades he will be part of it. Hudson/Viciedo would be an exciting package in return for these guys.
Listening to Ed Wade talk, as well as some of the stuff that writers have written, I think if you guys are holding your breath for a deal for Myers, you are probably going to turn purple and pass out. Irrespective of whether they should trade him or not (and which should be viewed as a separate question), I'm nearly positive they won't do so now that they've dealt Roy-O.
I agree. It's a friendly contract, especially if he continues to pitch well. I'm not sure he can keep it up for another 1.5 seasons, but he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. If he stays consistent, $8MM for this production and his veteran presence next year is soething Wade probably values over getting a B-level prospect.
This is something I think people missed when they made the arguments over the last few years that the Astros needed to field a mediocre team while rebuilding to keep fans interested. Fans will buy sucking with hope. They won't buy sucking without hope though. Even if all these prospects flop, the organization has some sense of hope and possibility for the future right now.
Do you think Myers is going to want to excerise his part of that option? He'll be 30 yrs old, has an injury history and coming off of a career year. I imagine he will want to cash in on his success this year. Even if he can't get more than 8 million on this open market (which i'm not sure he can't), I'm sure he would value a multi-year contract over a one year deal. If he astros keep him it will be part of a mult-year contract, imo. And if that's the case there is no reason not to tell his agent they plan to offer that in the offseason, trade him, get prospects. and then sign him in the offseason to that larger contract.
Agree completely. I think the excitement starts to build again in 2 years when many of the lower level prospects are getting to AA and beyond. I'm praying that the Astros renew their deal with the Ryan/Sanders group to keep Round Rock as the AAA team. With all the potential prospects in the next couple of years, it will be more fun to go to games.
I thought I'd read earlier in the year that he likes it here and will probably exercise it. I could be mistaken though.
Oh I agree, Puma to me is gone but Myers is a longshot however if a team like the W/Sox wants him bad enough and overpays, then Wade HAS to listen and see what he can get. Puma is gone/Myers stays is my prediction.
