Taking on the rest of his contract should help offset a little of the money the team gave to the Phillies.
my fears. imo, they are going about rebuilding the wrong way. maybe they have some strange plan to spend the **** out of money buying more ariel ovando's over the next few seasons. setting up the dominican complex and all that crap may have given them some harebrained idea on how they can rebuild. i dont f'ing know. having a fire sale without getting any top prospects in return seems fcking r****ded though.
@KenDavidoff: #Astros indeed expected to get non-prospect minor-leaguer(s) and payroll relief from #Yankees in return for Berkman
no it isn't. not from a fan's perspective. unless you are some fan of tracking drayton's finances. completely worthless, unexciting trade from a fan's perspective.
While I absolutely love Berkman, anyone who actually thinks we can get prospects of any real value for him are kidding themselves.
So basically this is a continuation of the Philly trade in that we need to get part of the $11 million back? Non-prospect minor leaguer- someone who will never make the majors?
Story about D. Adams having a broken ankle. Story was published today! Thunder top Fisher Cats; David Adams has broken ankle TRENTON - Yankees senior vice president of baseball operations Mark Newman did not have the heart to say it out load, but every indication is the once-promising season of top second base prospect David Adams is over. "I would not say is he done, but I also wouldn't say the chances are real good that he makes it back,'' Newman said. Newman confirmed to The Times during last night's 3-1 victory over second-place New Hampshire in front of 6,626 at Waterfront Park that Adams, one of the organization's top middle infield prospects, actually fractured his ankle sliding into second base at Portland's Hadlock Field May 23. The Adams injury, sustained in the first inning of an 8-6 win over the Seadogs, was described as a high ankle sprain for more than two months. Adams, 23, was hitting .309 with three home runs, 32 RBIs and had not committed an error in his first 39 Double-A games before going down. As the duration of Adams' recovery stretched into July, Thunder manager Tony Franklin confirmed to reporters that one of his best players had suffered "a setback'' upon his return to the team's minor league headquarters in Tampa, Fla., last month. That setback, according to Newman, was the discovery of the previously undetected fracture. "It turns out he has a broken bone in his foot … right around the ankle,'' Newman said. "We didn't know it was broken. We just found out about it. We thought it would get better, kept waiting for it to get better, and it never did. He just could not get past a certain point and now he has to stay off of it so the bone can heal.'' According to Newman, Adams was running before discovery of the fracture, but he has since been fitted with an immobilization device and has been completely shut down. Despite losing a player reportedly coveted by the Seattle Mariners in the proposed trade with the Yankees for Cliff Lee earlier this month, the Thunder have used solid starting pitching and a big offensive season by third baseman Brandon Laird to surge to the top of the Eastern League East Division. Now 2 ½ games ahead of the Fisher Cats (62-44), Trenton (64-41) pushed across two runs in third inning when Luis Nunez tripled into the left field corner and scored on a Justin Snyder double. After Snyder moved to third on a long fly ball to right field by Justin Christian, Austin Krum laced a run-scoring single to right field to stake EL Pitcher of the Week Lance Pendleton to a 2-0 lead. I don't get this deal. Berkman has a .925 ops in july. He clearly has something left in the tank, and there is no financial commitment. Is the market for Lance really that weak? Let's see what Dunn fetches.
Uncle Drayton should reinvest the money saved he with the Berkman trade to sign draft picks Adam Plutka, Jacoby Jones, and top international free agent deals.
Did anybody see the lineup for the Astros today? It literally may be the worst lineup in MLB history. http://twitpic.com/2a4dxe
Its the Astros Truly, I thought the purpose for trading away your best assets (Roy, Puma) was to get prospects, not really salary cap relief, as Puma was a free agent anyways, and Roy is worth his contract as it is. The key was to get the prospects, and maybe in the future pair them up with some stud veterans who we can sign for big money. But if we're not getting the prospects, its gonna be that much harder to rebuild.... The only positive I see out of this is at least Mclain has finally come to realization that it is time to rebuild.
drayton is saving himself as much money as possible, and is going to sell the team at season's end. he doesn't care that he's leaving the roster in shambles. leave the next owner to worry about that. he never gave a **** about the fans, only their money.
