Where did you see this? Or is it your own info?

Either way, I suppose it makes sense. Castillo is better from a strict OBP perspective, but now that we're looking for the 2B to fill the No. 2 hole and not leadoff, Iguchi's extra-base power probably makes him the better all-around candidate.

so would i. every day for, like, 370 straight days; or until i got tired of being told to go f myself.

if the rays are serious about dealing kazmir, the talks will likely start (and end once we say, "no") with hunter pence. though, i'll be honest, i might do that deal.

I would give up Pence in a heartbeat for Scott Kazmir. It's not even close.

Assuming Pence would project to .320, 20+ HRs, I would be hard pressed to trade an everyday player of that caliber for a guy that will pitch every 5 days and be involved in 20-25 team wins per year (for which he would probably be credited with 16-20 of those wins).

Pence for Kazmir is actually a pretty fair deal in terms of talent. Kaz will get a payday sooner than Pence will so maybe Pence is a tad more attractive to us (and them for that matter)....im torn on whether id do that deal bc i think Pence could end up putting up berkman type #'s

If I had any confidence whatsoever that the Astros organization can draft or has drafted a SP prospect that could be as good as Kazmir anytime soon, then I would say no way on a Pence for Kazmir swap. But we seem to do better with position players here lately than with pitchers, and I'm a firm believer in needing the pitching to win, but not necessarily the offense. I'd do that trade.

    ???

here's a list (in order) of our best homegrown products since 2000, separated by pitchers and position players: oswalt, lidge, wheeler, qualls; pence, ensberg, taveras... uhm.......

given that oswalt and lidge are LIGHT YEARS better than anyone else on that list, if i HAD to give a nod to either, it'd be the pitchers.

bottom line: they haven't developed nearly enough of either lately.

i think pence ends up being a better player than young or upton, hands down.

crawford rumors have been quite popular in the last few years... pence is a hell of a lot cheaper--that's for sure.

delmon young is only 21. he has alot more power than pence. i do think Pence will be a better player than BJ upton though.

Oswalt and Lidge are 30. Might as well throw in Berkman if you add these guys

Pence, Patton, Hirsh, Towles, Burke are the only recent talent that the Astros "developed". I wouldn't say this is a good group to say the Astros are good at devloping talent, hitting or pitching at this point from these guys.

Are the NY Mets part of our system?

    Most talent evaluators would disagree.

I'd argue they aren't particularly good at developing either one.
