You don't need to be an insider to make a statement like that. Unless lunhow really dazzled him with the Spanish, I imagine we're going to have to be highest bidder to land him. If he even wants to leave.
The member berries are strong in people this year. Whatever happened to going after some decent starting pitching? Seems like the Astros will have a good lineup and positionals next season, why not try to go after some pitching? I like EE but he's about to get paid and we all know what happens when the Astros offer big contracts to these types, they come here and do absolutely nothing. And Beltran is a corpse, man.
No, you're right I haven't. But it does seem like that is our biggest need at this point wouldn't you agree?
Because the FA class is made up of hitters.... to get a quality starting pitcher you are going to have to trade away a lot of talent/potential.... So it's far easier to go after FA hitters right now It'd be nice if a some quality starters were available in FA but that's not the case.
I would agree, but there is just not a good market for starting pitching this year. We would have to trade away talent in order to acquire a pitcher. Here is what is available and sadly... Rich Hill leads the class: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/03/2016-17-mlb-free-agents.html
That's a bummer, man. Whatever happened with Chris Sale? I thought he was on his way out the door in Chicago.
A.K.A.: A strong push by Beltran's agent to get better offers from more desirable/big market teams...
Its designed leaks.... nobody just makes up random dollar info without a source. In this case, the source is entirely EE's camp.
Chris Sale is not a free agent. He's under team control for 3 more years. And guys like Archer, Greinke, Gray, etc. aren't free agents either. The Astros are doing exactly what they need to......bolstering their batting lineup so if they need to pull assets from there to make a move for one of the elite pitchers, they can.
