Signing EE solves 1B in a big way. It creates a monster lineup for the next 3 years at least, but we still need an ace to put us over the top as stated before. I would do the EE move regardless. Martes is unproven and I don't believe Tucker has been labeled as untouchable so if that is part of the price for Quintano you do it. Add a bullpen arm at the deadline if needed.
I don't know. If Quintana is available, you may see the Astros give up Tucker and/or Martes. Quintana has been very consistent and is under team control for 4 years at an insanely low price. It is obvious though that Luhnow does value his prospects more than other teams value their own.
The Rockies are stupid. Give up the #11 pick for a guy that was awful the 2nd half of the year, especially if the Denver Post is correct in that they will move him to 1B (why?) The Rangers won't get the #11 pick, but they do get an extra supplemental pick and essentially replaced Desmond with Gomez, which is fairly lateral move. The Astros don't have to do anything except learn how to get mediocre hitters from the Rangers out.
JESUS.... I hadn't even considered that possibility. Trout in the outfield with an energized Gomez.... God help us all.
I'd send Martes + to CHW for Quintana in a heartbeat. If we could get it done without giving up Tucker then they should go for it.
Why would CWS ever go for that?? If all they were looking for is Martes+fillers, the deal would have been done even before the Sale deal. They'll want Martes + Tucker + filler, and even then, I do that deal in a heartbeat. Tucker is going to be very good, but he's still a bit of a wait, and Quintana is incredibly proven.
I am going wait and see how the market settles for EE. We see this almost every offseason; star player holds out for more money, the market for said player dwindles, with rumors of him having to settle for a lot less, but then he ultimately signs a big contract, similar to what the initial rumors were for. So until there is pen to paper, there is no need getting worked up for it. Having said that, it would be absolutely stupid to see by and let him sign a 3/$60M deal. In this day and age (with the QO being a shade over $17M), that would be relative peanuts. If 3/$60M is all it takes, then I'll gladly lose our 1st pick next year and sign him immediately. It's a no brainer.
I agree, I was just talking from the Astros perspective. Although a Martes, Reed, Fisher, F. Perez haul wouldn't be too shabby.
I would be fairly upset if EE signs a 3/$60 deal elsewhere. And by fairly upset, I probably mean blinded by rage.
Probably... and if they do make that sort of move, they likely have some further insight on Martes' true ceiling. Would be curious to see what their plans with Feliz are. He has great stuff, could be a starter, and they were intentionally working as to not over-tax his innings last year out of the bullpen. They're also planning on stretching out Devenski, which I don't agree with. Would rather have that semi-daily weapon available in the bullpen.
Haha yea, me as well. That number almost HAS to be bogus, because if true, I think all 30 teams line up and sign the deal immediately. Hell, even the A's or Rays would sign him, with the plan to flip him in a year or two, and get a ton of talent in return. As ridiculous as it sounds a $20 AAV is not very much nowadays. Man, MLB is doing quite well at the moment!
Just do it Stros. Edwin got pitched around this year and still played well. Stack him in the lineup surrounding him with Tuve and Correa.
I don't understand your posts at all. Reed is possibly not on the opening day roster and is certainly not projected by anyone to be a starter. Does a 40 home run player make you a contender? If it does I guess we should be calling up old Chris Carter. They won 84 games last year with less than half a season of Bregman and Gurriel and injuries to their 2 best starting pitchers. In 2017 they project to have a full season of Gurriel and Bregman, the progression of Correa, plus the addition of Reddick and Beltran. On paper we have one of the best lineups in the AL. I'd like to see another arm get added but it's December. To be anything other than optimistic right now is pretty silly.
