Just hypothetically, I know this wouldn't be the case or anything, but would you trade all that for Otani? Although I think he would be better in NL where a pitcher would bat, but he can do a lot.

    Absolutely not.

That is a massive load to trade for a player that has never proven he can actually play well in the majors. We all suspect he will, but we don't know.

To deal the three players listed, and the service time involved, etc.... I need a genuine superstar with very similar service time.

Why? Because Bregman may very well become a superstar, Tucker is very young and has exceeded expectations at each level and isn't higher ranked because he isn't in the upper minors yet, and the third player is very young and after a tough start to the season, working on his mechanics, he did extremely well.

The reason that you seldom see trades where a Bregman and Tucker and Martes are dealt, is because the return has to be very, very high and that would mean a very young superstar under long term team control, and the teams that have those players do not want to deal them.

Well that would somewhat be on the Astros, if they don't want the Rangers to get EE, the Astros can sign him. The Astros lost a great deal of payroll from last season, and while they have added, they have not added THAT much. Simply moving 2-3 movable assets like McHugh, Gattis or Sipp will put them in a similar economic position prior to signing Beltran.

The Angels wouldn't trade Trout at his age and pay this season.

Even then, you have to ask yourself; would you rather have Bregman, Tucker and Martes AND the money on Trout's deal or just Trout?

Hypothetically the Astros could sign EE for the money Trout will be earning shortly....

Would you rather have Trout or EE, Bregman, Martes and Tucker?

That is why deals of this sort are almost non existent.

We don't know if Martes and Tucker will translate to MLB (see AJ Reed). As far as straight up MLB talent goes, I would take Bregman for Trout every day. He has been a perennial MVP candidate. I know angels would not trade him, but if all it took was Breg and 2 prospects, I would be all over it.

Now, maybe, if we were for sure going to have EE, I would see EE and Breg as harder to part with but still might do it. Its Mike ****in Trout man.

I haven't figured out the new CBA, and I asked in another thread, but I think he has to wait until he's 25 (2 more years) unless he wants to enter the amateur draft instead of being a FA (ala Yuli)

No i know, I was just gauging his value of those players. He said he wouldnt trade them for Sale. I wanted to see if he thought Otani was worth those players, or Trout. Apparently none of them are worth Martes, Tucker, and Bregman...

I think he's worth a whole lot of things/money (no idea his present trade value though, how do you gauge a guy like that?) You don't find talent like his everyday, I wish he could come over sooner.

Is it just me or is anyone else getting the vibe that Encarnacion and his agent seemed to be holding out too long and his prime suitors are moving on? Sorry I posted before I actually thought about what I typed... Please just call me Captain Obvious. All I meant is it feels like teams are getting tired of waiting on him and with all the other options out there his agent may be trying to hold his cards too long and actually hurt his payday in the long run.

I think the CBA is what tanked EEs market. Teams know they can make their FA splash next season and not give up a 1st round pick. I think all the remaining QO players are going to get a lot less than they were asking last week.

Good point, I just hope it doesn't become a boon for the rangers and EE falls into their lap

There's clearly a component of this.

Teams (including the Astros) likely came with their offers last week.... and they decided to wait. Not a terrible decision to be patient... but in the mean time, they've released details of the new CBA and other players have agreed to similar (likely less expensive) deals for what will be similar production for at least next year. That's where patience could backfire.

Wouldn't be surprised to see EE ending up signing a short deal with a 1 year opt-out (like Cespedes did), and trying again next year.
