I believe it is known that Bagwell used andro just like McGwire got caught with in 98. That shows that he was very likely to have used them.
a) I've never heard that, but that doesn't mean it wasn't widely known. b) How does the use of a substance that was not outlawed by MLB prove the use of other substances? Again, I'm probably just being naive, but I want more proof than that.
Is it just me, or are all of our top prospects getting shelled this Spring? I'm sure they'll be OK in the long run, but I was hoping one of them would blow up this Spring...
Hirsch has definitely looked the worst... and out of all the guys, I thought he had the best shot at being a dark-horse to crack the team. Nieve has looked both good and bad. Buckholz has been consistent... but that just means he hasn't been awful. He could actually end up making the big-league squad as a long-releif guy, soon to become a starter once there's an injury. Carols Hernandez could still be the 5th starter... but since he's in the WBC, and he's not one of the best Venezuela pitchers, nobody's been able to see much of him.
Pettitte leaning toward retirement at the end of the season? http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/story/400135p-338999c.html
I said this like 3 months ago. All those years in the postseason has put a lot of mileage on his arm. PS: Games on! US vs Mexico
Bagwell and McGwire got *caught* using legal suppliments. I am pretty sure they both drank water in 98, another legal substance.
Why do you guys (well some of you) constantly believe the trash NY "reporters" throw out day in and day out.
WTF are you talking about? There were some direct quotes from Pettitte in that article that would lead anyone to believe he may not be pitching next season. Here I'll copy and paste the relevant part for you. "I can't sit here and honestly say I know (if he'll play next year) for sure," Pettitte said yesterday after allowing two runs and five hits to the Bombers in his three-inning spring debut. "It's been two long, hard years here."
No, but it was considered a solid outing for him and a small step forward. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASAp...d=1353499&vkey=spt2006news&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
I'm more interested in who's going to nail down the last 2 spots in the rotation. The smart money was on Astacio and Rodriquez. Zeke has been damn good this spring with 6 innings, 3 hits and 0 runs so he should be in. Wandy on the other hand has been terrible. An ERA of 8(!) with 10 hits in 8 innings.....bye-bye Wandy. At this point it looks like Tyler Buchholz has the inside track on the last spot. He's been a surprise with a nifty 2.25 ERA and the reports say he's got better movement on his fastball than last year at AAA. He's also second on the team in innings pitched with 12, so you got to think Phil is giving this kid some serious consideration for that last spot.
Anybody hearing anything about how Carlos is doing? Roger will take the 5th spot, thank you very much.
Nieve is making a late push to get on this roster... he was pretty good against Atlanta yesterday. Zeke is straight dealing... which we all know he can do as long as he keeps the ball down.
A couple of notes just going off stats...Buchholz has only 3 ER, but 6 R. Without seeing the game, I'd be curious if those unearned runs were truly caused by fluke errors or if he self-imploded after an error. Also one positive for Wandy is he leads the team in Ks.
