I have a hard time thinking of another team that would want to sign a 38 y/o 1B with below average production to a full time or even part time gig. You'd have to be pretty hard up to not have a better/younger/cheaper option.
If the money is right cora in boston might want him on a short term deal while they figure out who can play full time at 1st in their not-so-competitive years. Theyve also already expressed interest.
Jesus I had to look this up, I was so confused. I literally read that as ing-gulls. No Inglès necessary. I have to admit I was hoping he spoke English fluently. Or at least Maldonado/Altuve level fluent. I just think the interviews literally get lost in translation.
It's not so much getting lost, it's the fact every interview seems dragged out You're basically saying every question/answer twice before moving on to next question/answer
He had him FWIW he gets upset when I tell him he hates the Astros. He claims if anything he likes them for offering him a front office job… I think he just has a dated approach to scouting and doesn’t like how the Astros draft.
His defense is fine. He has shed a lot of weight and worked very hard on his defense. Early in his career he was a poor fielder. At this point he is average. He will make all the plays he is supposed to but seldom make a spectacular play.
Still just loving this signing. Fits a hole just perfectly. Balanced hitter that does damage regardless of handedness of the pitcher.
Getting kind of worried. It's been about a week since the signing and he has yet to hit a homerun. Could the athletic be correct in saying he basically sucks now?
Abreu... declining first baseman that has a MVP that will have trouble turning 3-4-3 double plays in his latter years... no wonder Bagwell likes him.
Keith Law went rouge with that article, as he's still upset about the Click firing. Had any other team signed him, he wouldn't have written that article. Boston/Cleveland/Chicago being in the mix is exactly why he ended up with the contract that he did. That's what having a "market" does for free agents. Surprised Rizzo didn't want to wait to see if he could get more... but he loves that short porch in yankee stadium.
Is he really upset with the Click firing? I didn't see any Click love nationally until late in the year when rumors started to come out that he might not get a contract extension.
Didn't he tweet something about Crane refusing to hire black people from way back when, when the Click announcement came out? Of course he has an axe to grind. Of course now he's digging in on Tennessee extorting the public to try and get a new football stadium... he really has turned into old man yelling about everything.
I have asked him and he claims he doesn't hate the Astros and points to the fact that the Astros offered him a front office job when Crane bought the team. The reality though is that he seldom says anything about the Astros, and 75% of the time when he does it is negative. For example he was talking about the best teams the last 5-6 years and also about the best organizations at developing players and he mentioned the Dodgers and Rays and Yankees and didn't mention the Astros. I texted him later asking how he could objectively leave the Astros off and he said it was not on purpose. Another time he went off recently about how the World Series doesn't mean as much as fans think, and winning the WS doesn't mean that the winner was the best team or is remembered as the best team. I texted and asked him why he didn't say that is 2019 or 2021 and he didn't text me back for nearly two days and told me to drop it.
