i remember the very same stuff when randy johnson was traded here..the article in the paper looked remarkably similar to the one that robertson put in today's chronicle..."little to no chance...same old astros..blah blah blah..."

Well, I remember seeing somewhere that the Mets were interested in Blum. Now that we have Kent at 3B (probably), Blum becomes kind of redundant, so maybe we could ship him to New York for a decent bullpen arm...

I say keep Blum. Him, Merced, and Vizcaino are good to have coming off your bench. Plus, there will be days when you can move Biggio to the OF, Kent to 2B and start Blum at 3rd.

well, I just have to come clean with my bias. I hate Jeff Kent like I hate Karl Malone.

the thing Kent tried to pull with the Giants and his injury was just unbelievably weak in my opinion. I'd rather have Bonds over Kent anyday.

the Kent signing is only a good move if it does not prevent the 'Stros from getting a centerfielder, in my opinion.

I don't know what I think about Biggio in the OF. I don't see Biggio being any faster than Berkman.

If Biggio makes the move to outfield will he have the arm strength to get runners out?

    Sweet!

So, where do you play him? 2nd and move Biggio to the OF or 3rd?

I think you have to move Biggio to the outfield. Our 3B platoon was great offensively and defensively last year. 2B was bad defensively and OK offensively. Putting Kent there improves it in both ways. Move Biggio to replace Ward in the outfield, and both the defense and offense improve there too.

All I can say is wow, I thought for sure that this would be yet another off-season where we watch other teams get better. Looks like Drayton is making one last push to get Bagwell and Biggio a Ring. Very encourging for the future. This offense is now loaded. Now how about the Astros package a trade for Ken Griffey Jr? Since the Reds have already tried to trade him how about Richard Hidaldo and throw somebody else in there? For whatever reason I dont think Drayton and Gerry are done. This is the first time since 1992 that theyve lured a big-time free agent hopefully things will turn out better this time. We got Swindell and Dreabek in 1992 in 2002 we get kent and ?

I have serious questions about Biggio's arm strength and endurance when playing the OF. If he can do it, this seems like the best scenario with Kent.

How many HR's/RBI's did Bonds have and how many did Berkman have?. Never mind Bagwell. I think NL pitchers **** just got weak!!

Here's an ESPN report saying he'll play third

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1218/1478962.html

This is best for everyone because Kent's range at 2B declined last year that his best position was actually 1B. He had a horrible playoffs last year except for one game in the World Series (2 homers in Game 5?) but you know what, he'll definitely get the Astros there. He is a bit moody but the friction with the Giants was more because of Barry's preferential treatment. The guy is an old-school Texan and I just don't see how he can act up now that he's in Texas!! Oh yeah, I expect his numbers to be the same. Pac Bell Park is a pitchers park. Going to Minute Maid will offset no more Barry.

    Congrats Astros!!

Outstanding. You sign him, then worry about trades. We just added a premier slugger who did awesome in the least favorable hitters park in the NL. We are extremely lucky, and if we don't manage to deal D-Dub, I think he does better this year and you'll see:

    1. Lugo
    2. Bidge
    3. Bags or Kent
    4. Berky
    5. Bags or Kent
    6. Ward
    7. Hidalgo or Lane
    8. Ausmus

If Ward has to go to the bench I would trade him just because it's the fair thing to do for a player who is good enuff to play everyday.
