Could be worse. We could've had Walker hitting 4th and Santander hitting 5th right now. That guy has been horrible.

Last nights game was absolutely huge for Walker. As of now:

    xBA: .246
    Career BA: .247

    xSLG: .446
    Career SLG: .456

    xwOBA: .325
    Career wOBA: .335

His EV, barrel %, and hard hit % are all higher than his career mark.

He’s on pace for 23 HR.

That one game made a HUGE difference.

If somebody wants reason to be optimistic. He got off to an absolutely dreadful start (possibly due to injury) and has been very slowly digging himself out.

Great post. He’s been a good hitter over his last ~120 pa and was probably not fully healthy for his first ~100 pa, so he was really only healthy and sucking for ~50 pa, and for those he was probably just pressing because of feeling the pressure over the big contract followed by the injury.

I think he’ll be fine; he is aging and I still don’t expect him to be as good as he was the last 3-4 seasons, but I think he’ll still be an above average 1B overall and I don’t think there’s much chance he will be anywhere close to the disaster that Abreu was.

Super helpful and encouraging. Thank you for sharing. I don't know how to find this myself, but would Yanier look similar? I would imagine Meyers looks the opposite?

If Walker and Diaz have really already started coming around, it is a very good sign for sustainable record especially once Yordan comes back, even if Meyers or Pena falls off.

Yainer's expected numbers have been great for a while now but when you start the season 2-33 it can take a while to dig out. I've never really been concerned with him. As aggravating as his complete lack of approach is, he still makes loud contact and that will start turning into results eventually.

Meyers is a little more interesting, he's fallen off from his peak level, but he's settled into above average for now. It will be interesting to see how the next month goes for him, does he keep falling off or can he maintain (or even improve)

Thank you! This provides even more encouragement and matches the 'eye test' - Yanier is clearly trending towards being the 120-130 OPS+ hitter we assume, and a Meyers hitting consistently at or above league average is a super-valuable player considering his defense at a premium position.

Yeah, I never expected Meyers to maintain his hitting. I think slightly above average bat is a win for us. His defense is so good.

Now do Pena? If he's truly mastered the ability to keep the K numbers low, he's going to be as dynamic (and eventually as expensive) as any homegrown Astros player there has been throughout the golden era.

Jake hitting over .300 and Pena`s growth are 2 of the bright stars of the year. Now if we can just get back Yordan back or I don't know, maybe an update.............maybe they misdiagnosed again and it's really something else
