Maybe it's just me but ever since news broke out that the Yankees wanted to bring Andy back, I consider any talk from him or his agent about "also wanting to hear offers from the Astros" just BS. They just wanted to see if the Astros were going to make some kind of 1yr/18mil ridiculous offer or something.

I thank Pettitte for what he's done for the team and hope the best for him as a Yankee, but it's time to move on. Even if the trade never materializes, and I hope we DO get Garland, I applaud Purpura for being active in the winter meetings. He's earned his stripe so far.

    I don't want to lose Willy T :(

I love watching him play. He's fast as hell, great defense and has a canon for an arm. Plus, he seems to make Luke play better or they both feed off each other.

I'd rather do Buck and Hirsch for Garland..

Stark's now saying the deal has hit a "snag", but that the White Sox DM is heading back to the hotel. Most likely to do some more haggling. I'm betting the Astros don't want to give up Hirsch, and the White Sox are being stubborn. Considering what they got for Garcia, if I'm the Astros I'm pushing to keep Hirsch out of the deal.

hmmm...headed back to the hotel...i guess they (chisox) are itching to get it done or else they would just continue talks by phone and go home...

if we do it, i hope hirsh is not in the deal...if he is, we need AP for the 4th spot

I remember back in the day Andy was being interviewed about playing for the Yankees and while he gave glowing complements of the organization he was never fond of New York City and infact only made it into town a few times(other than to work)

Is this a red flag that the Astros organization might not be conducting buisness as first class as they would like you to belive?

I mean Pettitte is obviously more comfortable here in Houston where he makes his home and has young children than he would be in New York but yet it seems at the very least he is very serious about heading back to the Yanks when it would appear the Astros should have every built in advantage to signing him. Just a thought.

Oh BTW- Willy T > Burke

wait...what?? the astros aren't first class because Andy just yesterday told everyone he actually wanted to play and they're concerned he might still sign elsewhere...so they actually (GASP!!) take a look elsewhere??

if pettitte is soooo intent on staying in houston...then he's using the Yankees to drive up price. is that any better than what you're saying about the 'stros?

Sounds like it hit a Jason Hirsh sized snag.

The problem imo is Hirsh/Buchholz are quite possibly the leaders for the 4 and 5 slots in the rotation. Getting Garland would shore up our front 3, but Oswalt-Garland-Woody with pick 'em between Wandy, Albers, Chris Sampson, Zeke, and Nieve probably getting looks doesn't sound to appealing. Wandy and Zeke have proven they aren't good starters, and I'd rather Nieve pitch in the pen. Albers has some potential, but I wouldn't want to rely on him; Sampson seems destined to be more of a long relief type. Having those makeup up 2/5 of your rotation is not a good thing, especially when your #3 isn't an inning eater. Throw in raising payroll, and also trading away your only true CF, and there are some questions. Garland is a solid 2...if it were a bona fide ace, I could deal with it.

Wondering out loud, I wonder if maybe Ensberg for their 3B prospect that supposedly is bumping Crede out would be part of it? At least alleviate the salary part.

Now if we started talking Dontrelle...I think I would do Wily+TBuch+Hirsh and their choice of Patton or Pence.

Please don't give up Hirsh. I don't know what's going on with AP, but assuming he hasn't made a deicision yet couldn't we wait a few days to make this trade to see if Andy wants to come back first?

Hirsh was the deal breaker....which is fine with me....if we deal hirsh there, it leaves 2 holes open in the rotation.....now we keep hirsh and sign AP and we have one hole.....and hopefully get rocket to fill it
