Wasn't there already a report that if the Stros traded for another pitcher they weren't going to resign Andy?
That's what I thought as well. The White Sox could, in two days, acquire two PRIZED prospects in Gavin Floyd (from the Phillies), and Jason Hirsh. Are they shooting for an Atlanta Braves ~1991 type run of pitching? I hope not.
I doubt that they can resign Andy P. b/c of Garland salary. Astros learned their lesson with Beltran on not waiting for players to make up their minds. Good for Timmy P. and the 'Stros.
It was all speculation... and I think that was before Pettite actually announced that he was going to pitch. Maybe it was designed to tell Pettite to "move your ass and make a decision... we're not waiting for you." Either way, Pettite's ONLY options are NY and Houston. If he goes to NY, it won't be because of money... it will be because of his own personal decision. I can live with that.
Honestly, if its a $$$ issue with Pettite, I'd be really suprised/dissapointed. Drayton knows the value that Andy brings to this team... both in the clubhouse, and on the field. I don't see them squabbling over ~$3-4 million dollars to get a deal done.
take that back, he will make 10 million this season, 12 in 08 http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-white-sox.html
thread growing so fast that it may not have been seen.. just looking for opinions from people who may have seen him pitch a lot more (maybe an AL fan?) scared about his .294 BAA
i feel like i was just getting a bj by a hot girl...and then found out it wasnt a girl you CANT be serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buchholz, when "on", was outstanding as well. He has to work on his consistency, but I have/had high hopes for him. I'd be more concerned with a guy who consistently gives up 4 runs a game than one that alternates shutouts and 8 runs in 2 innings (like Buchholz) - with the latter, you know something's there. It's just a matter of reaching that potential. Certainly it helps us in the short-term future, but long-term, I think that's a great trade for the White Sox.
