I hope timmy is not still tryin to revive this trade.
Essentially what it comes down to is Garland and 3 million dollars (in savings) for Taveras, Buckholz, Hirsh, and Pettite. no thanks. Id rather have Pettite, with draytons money of course.

But who is telling them that? We know its not the Astros... and I don't think 610 has the initiative (nor the contacts) to actually get in touch with somebody from Chicago.

Is Jose de JESUS Ortiz feeding them more drivel, trying to make a "scoop" again?

What do you guys think they are negotiating? Maybe 3 astros for 2 white sox or maybe another team is involved. I would be happy with a 3 for 2 trade if we got a good player besides Garland. We should offer 3 for 1 for Buehrle or another legit #2 pitcher/Santana/Jennings/Peavy(dreaming) instead of Garland even though he wasn't very good last year. I don't know but I have a feeling that Purpura has something planned cause he seems confident in his interviews. I guess we will see.

Maybe the deal would be expanded to include Ensberg and Joe Crede....I know the White Sox have been looking to unload Crede and this could potentially kill 2 birds w/ one stone for the Astros in addressing #2 SP and 3B...Crede has some serious pop...I know he's hit our pitching pretty well...we'll see...

Of course it is, no reason they'd stop talking.

“We were close on a few fronts, and we’re still close on a few fronts,” he said on the final day of baseball’s winter meetings at Walt Disney's Swan and Dolphin Resort. “And I don’t think that’s changed at all. We haven’t closed the deal, and that’s what we’re trying to do. And, obviously, now as people leave it makes it a little more difficult to do. We’re going to continue to be in communication. Again, there’s a couple of clubs involved. And we’ve been in communications during the day, and hopefully we can get something done.”

“In my opinion it’s not a dead issue,” Purpura said of all the trade talks he's had.

No, it's not. The deal that the Astros wanted was Taveras and Buchholz for Garland. The Sox asked for Hirsh instead of Buchholz and we called off the deal. It was never all three for Garland.

And Drayton isn't going to let someone like Garland take the place of Pettite, if Pettite still wants to play in Houston. If Drayton has proven anything over the years, it's that he'll overpay to keep local talent in Houston.

Elarton was an excellent pitcher until he injured himself.

Before his injury, Elarton's potential projected himto be a #2-3 starter. Let's not get carried away. Garland as a MLB starter is a know quantity; Hirsch is not. Can Hirsch handle the pressure and the wear-n-tear of pitching for a full year in The Bigs? We all hope so, but it is not a given.

Visions of Carlos Hernandez go dancing through my head ...

And Dierker's not managing, so I don't think we'll see Hirsh get abused pitching out of the bullpen ala Elarton.

it should definitely be on their minds. i agree with you. i just can't imagine being 40+ years old and saying, "well...i really like this guy...so whereever he's pitching, that's where i want to be."

    ewwwwww.
