Anyone old enough to remember when Bum Phillips was fired? Like Dierker, Bum had what many considered the best team in the NFL. The Oilers lost three times to the Steelers in the AFC championship game. The Oilers never returned to the Championship game after Bum was fired. Was it Bum's fault?

Hell no!!! Yet he was fired, because someone had to take the blame (and Butt Assams didn't want to pay the high salaries that came with a winning team).

    Notice the similarities?

Dierker has resigned. No replacement named yet.

Ok, who is the manager going to be? It will tell a lot about which direction the team will go with what players. Dierker was going to be fired if he didn't resign.

My gut feeling is they will hire Tony Pena. He has been successful at AAA, will come cheap and will be a minority hire. McLane is especially sensitive to minority issues after the misunderstanding with the Hispanic TV station a couple of years ago.

If they could get Felipe Alou in a package deal with Moises, they may go that route, however, that will certainly be a more expensive option.

I think the guy at hornfans was a day off. He may have been not full of it after all.

With all the pieces in place, you have to bring an experienced manager in. The Astros pitching staff will be one of best in all of baseball next season. If Felipe is brought in, Moises would sign for less than his market value, since he knows how close this Astros team is to winning it all.

Biggio and Bagwell won't be able to "break in" a veteran manager.

Facing a tough choice, resign with dignity or be fired, Dierker opted to resign. I don't buy the story Dierker resigned on his own.

So Biggio and Bagwell run the team?

Felipe knows how to win, Bigg and Bags will "bend" in order to get over the hump.

The guy on Fox Sports Net mentioned Tony Pena, Matt Galante, Phil Garner (isn't he in Detroit?), Felipe Alou, and one other name I forget.

If we get a manager with no major league experience I'm gonna be mad

The other name being thrown around is Tom Kelly.

So Biggio and Bagwell run the team?

If we get a weak or inexperienced manager, they will try -- they are known for this, unfortunately. Biggio tries to control the clubhouse (from what I understand) moreso than Bagwell. That's the one negative on getting Tony Pena. Biggio and Bagwell are more likely to listen to a Felipe Alou than a Tony Pena.

You know how Bagwell and Biggio were about Ausmus. They want leadership, experience, and control. I think that is what they are looking for. They don't want to break in a new manager. All that being said, Collins couldn't do jack with them. And all that being said, they do have a much better team now and maybe collins could have taken this group to the title. Reminds me of Bulls.....

What exactly did Leyland do with Bonds and Bonilla in their primes?

Has Felipe ever had a REAL major league team to manage?

    Answer: NO
