So uh...do we have an average team? Three decidedly reliable starters, one looking like an ace. Two very good hitters. A bullpen that is showing signs of life. This seems like...the rebuilding process is actually working?
Castro was breaking on the pitch. Why isn't he credited with a stolen base? If a runner on first breaks to steal second and there is a PB or WP, he gets credit for the SB.
I think its different when you're talking about a runner at 3rd. He likely would have scored on the WP regardless... but likely would have been out without the WP. I don't think the official scorer would presume he had that base "stolen"... and obviously stealing home (where the pitcher is already making the throw to the "base") is different than stealing second.
Not arguing, but, coincidentally, Grossman was just credited with a stolen base when they had him dead to rights at second on a pickoff attempt. I assume the official scorer's argument would be that he couldn't assume an out with a good throw to second, but he could assume an out with a caught pitch at home.
The home plate out is a much easier out to assume (shorter throw, catcher already in position to "catch", should simply be a routine pitch)... hence the "suicide" component of the squeeze.
KC feed is kinda funny. Nice deadpan. They were going to commercial break, and the camera was focused on the Astros bullpen. But Qualls was nowhere to be found as they had a few seconds before fadeout: "headed to the 9th, and the Royals will be facing...a Kansas City police officer" (who was pictured alone)
I like Bob Ford. Does a good job of describing the action. Better than Raymond/Dolan... and much better than Milo was towards the end. Sparky is eh... but its radio, so there's not a lot of need for an "analyst" as is.
Had no idea they were known to have good commentators, but I've been enjoying them as well. Not very homer-ish, and very complimentary towards our players.
