I'll say this: I was on board for holding off on calling him up early in the season for financial purposes, but, there's a reasonable chance that the production sacrificed in that time is going to cost him the ROY.

He's gonna have to keep mashing at a rapid pace to catch up with Abreu. Hopefully, Abreu stays on the DL as long as Springer was held out, to even up the playing field.

I think Tanaka has it sewn up regardless of Springer playing the whole season, sadly. TBD of course

Even if Tanaka wasn't already the front-runner... there would have been no reason why the extra month would have cost him the chance to win ROY.

Myers won it last year and he was called up in June.

It does suck that Springer's biggest competition for "Rookie" awards is from a 27 year old Cuban pro and a 25 year old Japaneese pro.

    Springer wins "traditional" ROY.

No reason?? Abreu has amassed 7 more hr's and whatever other accompanying stat totals than Springer has. It stands to reason that Springer would have closed the gap in all the totals if he played the same amount of time (figured that didn't need to be explained). If Abreu finishes the season with 40 hr's, and Springer 33, Springer wouldn't win the ROY over Abreu.

Myers is a terrible comparison. The AL rookie crop was complete garbage last year, and his totals crushed whoever finished 2nd. Each year is completely different. This year there's another hitter providing stiff competition.

I can only imagine how good this team will be with a bullpen.

Once they can develop all this pitching in the minors with Appel, the 2014 1.1 pick and Folty likely to be rotation guys with two of Feldman, Keuchel and Cosart and then some guys who have starting caliber stuff but can step right in and be an elite level reliever for a few years until a guy hits free agency and maybe a spot opens like (McCullers, Wojo, Velasquez, Thurman, etc)

That is a big part of our success right now. They have been superb during this run.

Our Starting pitching has been surprisingly good this year. We are up to 8th in ERA, 3rd in IP, and 7th in WHIP.

Offensively in May we are 8th in Runs, 5th in OPS, 7th in Walks and most impressively 4th in K's, meaning there are 3 teams actually striking out more than us. We are doing this while getting zero production from the top 2 offensive positions.

These are very respectable numbers, things are on the move.

Yep... and it hasn't been the guys they acquired to make it better (except Qualls).

I really like Sipp... and I think Qualls will do just fine as the closer. Farnsworth is probably more valuable as a veteran presence than just simply for his stuff.

But as long as the starters are delivering performances like this, and pitching into the 6th every single night, the bullpen scares me less and less.
