So is current trade propersal for Cosart, Singleton, AND D Brown? Domonic Brown is the #4 prospect in Baseball america for 2011.....J Singleton is #39 and Cosart is #70 while Lyles is #42......J Lyles is projected to be a #3 starter and maybe #2....Cosart is rated lower and struggling in single A.....I think we should keep D Brown if the trade occurs....
Good god, Brown, Cosart and Singleton isn't enough for Pence??? Although do love the idea of flipping Brown for more prospects.
i don't really know...if i had to guess, it's cosart and singleton, and maybe a 3rd player that nobody has mentioned. pure speculation on my part, but i think ed wants a premium pitching prospect, plus a prospect position player who has the potential to develop into a 35+ hr hitter, which is completely absent in this organization. i don't really see what else he could be looking to get, and can see him not wanting brown because he doesn't seem to be that kind of hitter.
I wonder what the HUGE package was. I am assuming it was a bunch of lower prospects without a centerpiece star type talent.
lol Eddy Wade/Astros are idiots. 2 top prospects SIngleton and Cosart. Wade: Not enough, give us more. Brown, Singleton, Cosart. We still dont like it. Go ahead, I hope you botch this trade and your ass gets fired.
I still think a lot of this is posturing until Sunday. Yes, I think in an ideal world the Astros would love to flip Brown for more pitching prospects, giving them Cosart, Singleton and whatever young arms that Brown could fetch. Given the emphasis on hitting with recent top draft picks, I think the Astros would love to get power arms out of this deal. That said, if it doesn't work out... I do think Wade would take a Brown/Singleton/Cosart offer come Sunday, if true. There's just too much overall value there. But until then, there's time for the Astros to shop around for the best deal they can get.
i don't think there's any way they can sit on that till sunday...the phillies aren't just going to sit and wait until the deadline for wade, and forego the opportunity to get somebody else if he doesn't accept their offer.
Everyone has picked up on this. This could turn into a mega-deal, Wade is playing with fire but the guy has nothing left to lose. If he strikes gold then he probably keeps his job but if not he is still getting fired.
I generally agree with that. The thing with outfielders - between Springer and several other recent draft picks of ours (not to mention JD Martinez), that's the one area where the Astros do have some depth of talent at the minor league level. Especially when it comes to non-elite power types. Plus, I think it's been proven over and over again that the Heck regime believes hitters are easier to scout/predict with high draft picks (like the No. 1 overall next June) than pitchers. On the other hand, I think the Astros are more comfortable dealing with power arms that have at least some track record at the minor league level. As a result, I think flipping Brown for a package of pitching prospects makes more sense, if you can find it. If not, though, I agree with everyone else - the value is such that you still make the deal and worry about the pieces later.
Maybe tomorrow, then. Let's put it this way: I think the Phillies have made it pretty clear that Pence is their priority, and before they'd move onto someone else, they'd give Wade a "last chance" phone call. They wouldn't pull the plug at random. At least, I hope both sides have that much common sense.
I don't think it says anywhere all 3 were offered. Best I've seen has been Brown and Cosart in the "Brown is included" deal rumors
This would be a huge get for Wade... “@Joelsherman1: TOTAL SPECULATION: But #Phillies had scout at #Yankees Double-A yest to see Betances Wonder if Yanks could be 3d team in Pence #Astros talk?”
I tend to agree with you here and that's why it sucks to have basically a lame-duck GM. While Wade is still trying to do what's best for the franchise, he's also making it personal.
This could be HUGE weekend for the Stros... “@Ken_Rosenthal: Another holdup in #Astros' Pence talks with #Phillies: Astros also trying to move Bourn, Wandy, B. Myers. #tradedeadline #MLGB”
If so, better be more than that instead of Brown. He has tremendous stuff, but his control isn't there, and he is already 23, and only in AA.
When I read that, it sounded to me like he was talking about replacing either Cosart or Singleton with Brown, not sending all three.
i can't imagine that he has absolute power on this. i'm sure heck, the scouts, crane and crew are all heavily involved in the decision-making process.
