Munro was released, and then cleared waivers (meaning nobody picked him up) so therefore he is still Astros property and is on the New Orleans Zephyrs roster. Rocketsball2003, isn't it time for Mommy to drop you off at day camp? Remember, 6th grade starts in three weeks!
Actually the Astros did not release Munro, they "designated him for assignment". There is a difference. By designating him for assignment he is cleared from their 40 man roster which was necessary in order to call up Fernandez. He then has to clear waivers. If he clears, then they can send him to the minors or let him go. They can also work to trade him during this time. If they release him, then they essentially sever ties with him immediately and want nothing more to do with him. They took a calculated risk and it worked out. It is interesting in these days of overall medicore pitching that nobody felt the need to claim Munro. While he is an average pitcher, he is certainly better than most teams 9th-11th pitchers. Why wouldn't Texas claim him?
heard on the radio that the 6 pitchers from our no -hitter are going to be at some car dealer in River Oaks for a promotion coming up.. Munro...wonder if he is going to show? would you if you were Munro?
So he's still on our team? Good....The Astros let go/trade too many players that come back to hurt us.
Is this haunting "phenomenon" unique to Houston? How many of their players do they release and/or trade come back to particularly "haunt" them?
So since he cleared the waiver process, does that mean he has options again? Or can he not be called back up to the majors this year?
If he is truly out of options the process works as you are being sent down. They can freely bring him back up once he is back with their minor league team.
