Looks like 7 million this year with a 1.5 million dollar bonus, 10 next, 13 the following and 13 million in 2014 if he vests otherwise 2.5 million dollar buyout.
Wake me up when the Grocer finally sells the team. Hopefully the next owner won't be baseball's version of Bob McNair.
Didn't really mean to insult or try and judge fans. Just bugs me when people decide to abruptly hop on/off team bandwagons when they are doing bad/good. The teams are always there whether they are bad or good and personally I feel as a fan it is the loyal thing to to do stay with your team through the highs and lows. I couldn't stand living in Houston this past year and having everyone hop on the Rangers bandwagon as soon as they made the WS. Was just ridiculous how many idiots were suddenly die hard fans. Now I'm sure they've gone back into the abyss. Although I can understand being a Rangers fan if you grew up in the DFW area. Simply staying my feelings, didn't intend to derail the thread.
Understood. But statements like that are judgemental in nature, whether you feel you intended it or not. Bully for you, then. For some others, following a sports team just isn't a big deal one way or the other. Me, I've bled Houston sports teams pretty much my entire existence--but I have never expected that from anyone else. It's an entertainment choice, no more and no less. Let's save altruisms like "loyalty" and "true" for things that matter like, God and country. If it bugs you that the Rangers are gaining some following while the Astros lay turds in the juicebox year after year, that's fine. That's different than calling people out with "true fan" or "fairweather" or other such drivel.
that they are! I could still watch, or listen on the radio, all day and all night. But I'd *still* rather play. I'm old and fat and I suck, but hey I always sucked anyway. Put me in, coach!
hate to agree but I do...not saying he's not worth it, but given the rebuilding mode... And I agree with Surfguy...Hard to ignore the Rangers and I got to go to a WS game...I'll always be a Stros fan, Cowboys fan, Rockets fan & wish the Texans would fn win...Gotta love the Stars, the only NHL team in Texas... Mavericks suck and i'm going to game with my Rockets gear on...FU Mavs!!!
Wandy has earned it, and its a good deal if he keeps up his production of the last 3 years. Still I would have preferred the team trade him.
Having rooted for one team my whole life, i can't imagine just up and deciding to be passionate about another, it seems to me once i've chosen a team, it's my team, whether i like it or not. It's not a choice anymore. The astros and texans have been awful franchises recently, but no matter how bad they do, i can never see myself sweating out a rangers or cowboys game, even if i wanted to be a fan of theirs, my body would not physically allow me to do it. Kinda like love i guess, you love who you love, even if you don't want to love them. Astros Rockets Texans Horn's Football Horn's Basketball These are the teams i'm stuck with for better or worse.
Some are complaining that the contract is too rich, but that's the price of keeping pitching, especially when said pitchers are left-handed. Justice brought up an interesting point in his column about the signing a few days ago. The rotation the Astros have put together will really have an opportunity to stay together. Over the next few years, we'll really have a good idea of what the Astros have as Myers, Happ, Wandy, and Norris are all under Astros control for at least the next three seasons.
Wandy being far better at home than on the road, plus his generally being so underrated, makes me suspect that the return we'd get back in trade wouldn't be so great. So I think extending him on a reasonable deal is a good thing. I mean, if it's not Wandy, you know the front office is just going to spend it on free agent veterans anyway. Well, I'd rather have Wandy myself.
