It wasn’t just passed balls, it was also not preventing wild pitches and not catching pitches that were potentially strikes (when no one was on base).

Amazing, Astros offered Maldonado 12 million 2 year deal and Maldonado turned it down. He ended firing his agent and signed a 1 year 2.5 million deal with the Royals.

Astros made out like bandits here. Plus they trade Stassi and get something back WOW!!!

Interesting, so who catches if Martin is held up and Chirinos gets hurt?

They offered him a 2 year deal this offseason, Boras told him not to take it. Later, he fired Boras.

I gave Maldonado as much crap as anyone last year, but this just makes a ton of sense. Needed a backup catcher a level or two higher than Stassi. Guy already knows the team and the pitchers, so he's an easy insert. Welcome back, man.

Oh, and for whatever it's worth, Marwin fired Boras too, as did a few other players.

I hope Maldonado performs better both offensively and defensively this year for us than he did last year. The passed balls, the strikeouts, low batting average, and minimal power numbers concern me as we move into the most critical part of the season. I wish him well and to be honest I do not have as much faith in either of our catchers as I would like to.
