Those crying about why the Astros just didn't pay Verlander in the offseason instead of giving up prospects now. The Astros would have been maxed out on their payroll paying Verlander the full amount. They have the flexibility now to add more to this team during their window.

$39 million for 3 postseason runs for a Cy Young level pitcher. The Mets were FLEECED in a sense, but they literally don’t care about money. So more power to them.

Basically Jim Crane “Monopolied” the **** out of the Verlander situation.

If we win a world series in the next 3 years then this was a good move. If we don't then it will be a wait and see to see how the 2 players we traded turn out.
Valdez, Verlander, javier, urquidy/Frances would be my playoff rotation.
I would have brown serve the mcculers relief role to add another power arm in the bullpen which would allow this move to add a defacto relief pitcher.

Verlander will also add length to his starts I think which will give the bullpen rest

They needed to make a big move. Huge price to pay, but if the Mets actually are picking up a lot of the salary that helps make it much more palatable. If not, it's pretty rough, but was probably still necessary to make a real run this season. They simply weren't going to be good enough otherwise. Now they have a chance.

Ok, that's easier to swallow giving up Gilbert/Clifford

The bullpen gets plenty of rest already. The problem is that Dusty uses the same guys over and over and over.

that's not a great deal lol,

and Harden is a appropriate comparison to Verlander given the postseason struggles for both guys.

39 million and losing 2 Outfielders ( and I loved Gilbert) for Justin Freakin Verlander? Crane gets a statue. If they win 1 more WS in the next 3 season and JV helps win games this is a massive bargain. I don't know why anybody would be against this trade we just got the best arm available that has experience of pitching down the stretch of a race through October. I know his World Series numbers aren't the greatest and it's a small sample size and all but come on you've got to get there first and he is done that in spades don't forget what he's done in the division series. This slots everybody down a notch and who knows what it does for the confidence of some of the other guys on the staff.
