Thought it might be interesting to gauge the Astros from the perspective of those that do power rankings. April 9th ESPN------------ 30th Fox-------------- 29th Bleacher Report - 28th Grantland -------- 22nd http://espn.go.com/mlb/powerrankings http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/powerRankings http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...nking-every-team-after-the-seasons-first-week http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/23527/mlb-power-rankings-week-1 Mainly, I was wonder who would give us some credit for wining the first series of the season. ESPN, Fox and Bleacher Report all had us at #30 going into the season. Only ESPN had us till in dead last. I was going to do CBS, but their new rankings dont come out till tomorrow.
I wouldn't expect to see a major change unless they maintain it for a few weeks. Even then, I wouldn't expect to see much movement unless you see them in contention come June.
Would love to see true power rankings reflecting a team's performance for the previous week. We're 3-1 with a stellar starting rotation ERA. The offense has gotten timely hits and exercised some pretty good patience at the plate. The defense has been good outside the first loss. But we're dead last because we're the Astros. And the Yankees are in the top-10 despite being 0-3 because..they're the Yankees.
I'm telling you I really think people are underestimating these astros. The astros have good players on this team.
We only get better with Lowrie coming back. Defense doesn't commit 4 errors and spoil a good Wandy start we are probably 4-0 right now.
I thought it of some significance that even after just one series, some that thought we were dead last no longer thought so. Its about perceptions and facts. Surely this early, especially in the Astros case, these rankings are more perception than fact. But as time grinds on, it will be interesting to see how many take our record (fact) into more consideration than our youth and inexperience (perception).
I am liking the results so far from these young 2012 Astros! Hope they can keep up hitting for average and power. The pitchers have done well themselves with all the excellent quality starts. I say .500 is definitely achievable with this roster.
