That's the NBA, in baseball you can change it before every series as long as the player was called up before the September 1st deadline.
bah, i keep thinking everytime I come to this thread, that there's a final playoff roster posted somewhere
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASAp...t_id=1236793&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou Should be announced today... although it doesn't have to be set until tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9:00AM.
if they can keep charles gipson on the roster...DO IT!!! you can never have enough speed on the basepaths when you already have few runs to come by. he's also a good defensive outfielder, i'd keep him over scott.
Here is the roster • Catchers (2) — Brad Ausmus, Raul Chavez. • Infielders (7) — Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Eric Bruntlett, Morgan Ensberg, Adam Everett, Mike Lamb and Jose Vizcaino. • Outfielders (6) — Lance Berkman, Chris Burke, Jason Lane, Orlando Palmeiro, Willy Taveras, and Luke Scott. • Starting pitchers (4) — Brandon Backe, Roger Clemens, Roy Oswalt and Andy Pettitte. • Relief pitchers (6) — Mike Gallo, Brad Lidge, Chad Qualls, Russ Springer, Dan Wheeler, and Wandy Rodriguez. Luke Scott got the nod over Charles Gipson and Wandy over Zeke.
That's the way it should be. Scott has delivered a few key pinch hits down the stretch and Rodriguez will probably be our #1 left hander out of the pen over Gallo.
don't like scott being on the playoff roster over gipson. gipson is a very good baserunner with great speed and is good outfielder. scott has been "okay" since coming back up to the majors but nothing spectacular at the plate. rather have speed and defense than an average bat with average speed.
OOoooooh, what a stinging retort. Better get out the asbestos underwear for that one, RM95! Rocketman95, we meeting up somewhere Saturday?
I'm waiting to see what time the two big games are on Saturday before I make my plans. Would love to meet up, though.
i would actually rather have zeke in relief than russ springer too, but that's just because every time springer takes the mound i just get this awful feeling that he's going to give up a homer because he hangs a ton of pitches over the middle of the plate at waist level. while zeke is just all over the place. i rather have unpredictable than predictably bad.
Oh no not Mike "I-cannot-get-lefties-out" Gallo. We are introuble if he sees any action. Now I am partially depressed. Since the only lefties we will see in this series hit the "flat ball" and no-movement fastballs very well (Langerhans, La Roche, Chipper Jones, their catcher and R. Furcal), why even bother putting him on the roster? His stuff will not get any of those guys out (he will not even pitch against switch hitting Chipper and Furcal). Langerhans and La Roche cannot hit sliders and breaker balls - and Gallo does not have those pitches (at least not the good variety). I would have prefered any other player but Gallo in this case - even Gibson would have been more valuable. This is a mistake imho - and I hope this is corrected in the next series because we all know Gallo cannot get Klesko, B. Giles, Cedeno or Larry Walker out (if we get that far). I cannot even understand what Garner sees in him - make brain lapse of some kind. Gallo is simply a waste of space.
heh, just got to work and saw the thread. I guess we might be on of the only ones that actually thought Gallo was impressive for the most part. I just don't have the confidence in him that Garner has.
I always have a bad feeling when he is up even with his relative success for the season, kind of like I had with Miceli last year during the playoffs that turned out to be warranted... I'm glad we have Wandy in there as a backup lefty.
A victim of simplistic reasoning You do know that he faces one batter a lot and if he gives up a base hit, Qualls and Wheeler then come in to save his blush? The more telling stat for a specialist is BAA and to a small extent WHIP. Also SLG % against and OB% are great indicators as well. I hope you know this. Why even bother - it is Rocketman95.
