Here is the line from Seaton's line from Lexington's game today: Date OPP W L ERA SV IP H ER BB SO May 03 @AUG 1 0 0.00 0 6.0 5 0 2 2 For the season (as early as it is), Seaton is: W L ERA IP H ER BB SO 4 1 0.91 29.2 19 3 7 17 Below is the rest of the Lexington staff: Kyle Greenwalt W L ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO 2 1 0.78 23.0 12 2 2 1 4 11 Robert Bono W L ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO 3 1 1.64 22.0 19 4 4 0 1 13 Jordan Lyles W L ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO 1 2 4.94 23.2 26 14 13 2 6 27 Brad Dydalewicz W L ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO 2 0 0.00 17.0 5 1 0 0 7 8 Dydalewicz just went on the 7-Day DL with an undisclosed injury, hopefully he'll come back healthy and effective.
I wonder if Lyles had a bad start or two. That ERA is way out of place. Really though, that whole rotation looks to be pretty nasty. Here's hoping they continue to develop and stay reasonably healthy.
Health is always a big concern. Losing studs like Wade Miller and Carlos Hernadez to injuries really hurt.
At the worst, it gives us a glimmer of hope that there is a future. There's little to nothing between them and the big club (maybe Bud Norris). If a couple of these guys pan out, I think we're looking at 2011 or 2012 before they make a real impact.
Lyles has had a couple of starts where he has gotten knocked around, thus the reason why his ERA is much higher than the others. However, through 5 starts (23.2 IP) he has walked only six and struck out 27. You can see his stats for the season at the following link .
With how the weekend has gone, here's a couple of articles on Ross Seaton and Jordan Lyles to gives hope for the future. Ross Seaton Jordan Lyles It sure would be nice to have both these guys make the majors by the time they turn 21.
It's probably just bad luck. Lyles' K rate and K/bb rate look great. he's probably the best long-term prospect in the astros' system right now.
With just 3 picks in the first 100 it'll be tough to duplicate last years draft. If Matthew Purke falls to 21 the Astros will be off to a good start. Though they may need to look more towards finding their next big hitter in the first round, with Berkman starting to show his age.
It will be more difficult to duplicate last year's draft simply because the Astros are picking eleven spots higher than last year. We also don't have a supplemental 1st rounder, but do have a 3rd round supplemental pick. However, this is a pitching-rich draft and the Astros should be able to get another good arm to develop. I don't think Purke will drop all the way to the 21st pick, and if he does its because of signability (wanting a Beckett or Porcello sized bonus). Will the Astros pick a player with a high bonus demand? I definitely agree. Smoak was the best player available at the tenth pick. Castro should be a very good catcher, but IMO will not be as good a player as Smoak.
Here's part of an article from Baseball America on draft steals from last season, Jordan Lyles ranks second: Nearly one full year after the 2008 draft, some picks are looking like steals. Some are even knocking on the door of the 2010 top 100 prospects list. 2. Jordan Lyles, rhp, Astros, supplemental first round (38th overall) Lyles didn’t rank among the top 200 prospects for the 2008 draft, but the Astros had enough conviction in Lyles to take him off the board with the 38th pick. Now Lyles, 18, is building a case as one of the better pitching prospects in A-ball. In 48 2/3 innings with low Class A Lexington, Lyles has 56 strikeouts (10.4 K/9) and 11 walks (2.0 BB/9) with a 3.14 ERA. Lyles is a good athlete with a repeatable delivery, allowing him to throw strikes and miss bats with his low-90s fastball, curveball and changeup.
I'm not nearly as down on the Astros pitching prospects as I was before the season. Between what's going on at Lexington and the 3 starters at RR (Bazardo, Norris, and Johnson), I feel like there's hope in the near future. The problem in the organization is on the offensive side. There's nothing. Andrew Locke at Corpus is having a great start, but outfield isn't where we're hurting. It seems like outside of Castro, Maysonet and Manzella, there isn't an infield prospect in the organization.
Still too early to give up on Towles. He looked good when first called up in 2007, and he is playing great at AAA.
I completely agree. I was out at the RR game 2 nights ago. He's hitting well right now and i believe he deserves another chance very soon. Quintero just isn't a major league hitter. That said, if you bring Towles up, it's to play every day and that isn't going to happen with Rodriguez here.
Here is Seaton's line from yesterday's game: Date OPP W L ERA SV IP H ER BB SO 6/1 AUG 1 0 0.00 0 9.0 3 0 0 6 Complete game shutout, with six K's, no walks. Here's hoping Heck can find some more talent in the draft next week that can emulate last season's draft and produce these kind of results.
Nice line from Seaton. I won't know a single player in the draft but I'll be interested to see what we do.
Yep, first 9-inning shutout in the South Atlantic League this year. Very nice. Seaton, Bono, Lyles, Greenwalt and Dydalewicz continue to thrive down in Lexington. It's very nice to see.
Geez, what happened to Brad James and Sergio Perez up at CC? I checked out the CC rotation to see if any of the Legends staff would move up, you could really make the argument that they really all should move up. Brad James is 1-3 with 7.30era and Sergio Perez is 3-5 with a 5.76. Yikes.
