Awsome! Thanks for the update. I love to see the Cubs lose, but I don't want the Marlins to leap frog to the top. So maybe if they either split, or the Fish win 1 more than the Cubs.
Did anyone read that we would have never faced Perez if the Pirates-Milwaukee game wasn't rained out the day before as he would have pitched then? So, it was basically a mismatch. It was like their #1 or #2 against our #4 or #5 pitcher. That sucks that we came into that situation. We could have broken our win streak record had our luck been better with the match-ups. Oh well...I guess the streak had to end some time. It still irks me, however, that it played out that way.
Damn, I wish I watched this on WGN....I would love to hear their crappy announcers excuses now..... Wow! A complete game shutout! WHOOP!
2nd game will probably be around 5 or so Houston time unless they are playing it as a day night. If so then they will start around 7.
I told you guys FLorida is a force to be reckoned with. They still have beckett, willis, and that burnett guy.
I was thinking about that but I think his turn in the rotation would have been up in that 5th game on Sunday. oh yeah, I hear what your saying though. Would have been nice to have Oswalt going up against him instead. But I'm kind of glad that streak is done, it was starting to add another element of pressure. Time to grind it out now.
Yeah it just depends if they would have started him on only 3 days rest or if they would have used a 6th pitcher
Man.... Dusty Baker has actually made the "lovable losers" hateable... I've never heard so much booing in Wrigley ever... and even the announcers just had to flat out say, "This is horrible baseball, and the Cubs have no business even thinking playoffs if they continue to play this way..." I have no idea why Dusty is preaching the "us against the world" tactic... you've got players calling up to the announcing booth DURING THE GAME to complain about the announcers positive comments about the other team. you've got guys who have no clue on how to run the bases... and all they get is a vote of confidence from their manager, as they continue to make the same mistakes. And you've got a team that a.) only hits the long ball, b.) doesn't know what "fundamental" baseball is either offensively or defensively, and c.) will blame a curse, not their horrible play, when they eventually don't win or even get to the playoffs. I don't know what brought on this Cubs rant... I've always enjoyed watching them over the years (provided they weren't beating the 'Stros)... but this year, they've just become unwatchable and downright hateable. In fact, I'm rooting for the Marlins to blow them out every single game, even if it means they'll end up first in the WC race... I just can't stand this Cubs team, and there are many Cubs fans themselves who have no idea what to do with them (or, just listen to Mariotti or Wilbon... you can even see the disgust in their voices).
Cubs up 1-0 and threatening in the bottom of the 3rd. Here's hoping for a split. EDIT: 4-0 on Alou three run homer
Hasn't this been the knock on Baker. He is a great motivational manager but when it comes to managing the game he's gonna make some of those "What was he thinking" moves.
Agreed.... his motivational techniques were great for teams that already knew how to play fundamental baseball. Last year's team ended up masking a lot of their defensive and offensive fundamental problems by both utilizing tremendous pitching, and having players like Kenny Lofton (who deserved more credit for the Cubs success last year) who could do something OTHER than hit a HR. Oh yea, and he didn't drop pop flys in the sun either.
