...forgot to mention they should throw a prospect in as well. Now see, I'm just as bad at this as all the dorks on the radio I like to make fun of!
When did I ever claim to know what Clemens is feeling? And i'm not reading anything into behind the scenes events. Anyone can see what's going on. Alot of you people need to take your blinders off and use some common sense. All of these responses and not one of you sheep have been able to tell me one disadvantage of offering arbitration. If Clemens chose to come back, the Astros didn't want to have to pay Clemens in the range of 20 million for next year. That's the issue behind this. Plain and simple. Considering Clemens' season last year, he deserves that level of pay. He shouldn't be expected to give the Astros another hometown discount. He's already done that once. Drayton is trying to run a big market team with a small market budget. That's all there is to it.
And i'm done with this thread. It's impossible to argue with the ignorant and this entire discussion is doing nothing but getting my blood pressure up. Just keep telling yourselves the Stros handled this situation well.
the disadvantage IS the fact that you'd be subject to a proceeding where you could end up being on the hook for upwards of $25 million for a pitcher who will be 43 years old. i'm not sure that's the best use of resources...partiuclarly if you believe there is a pretty good chance he'll pitch for you next year anyway. apparently he hasn't cleaned out his locker and the team is still in contact with him quite frequently. he's working on a couple of business deals here locally in houston. i think the astros have some sense of confidence that if he pitches at all, he'll pitch in houston. when the guy chose not to give them a number at all to budget for next year, he made the decision for them about arbitration. the astros shouldn't pay clemens for last season..he got paid $18 million for last season. he was very well compensated for last season. you pay him for this season.
Perhaps some good news for the Astros in the Tejada hunt?? http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/story?id=396286
That's interesting. I was under the impression that the Phillies wanted a front line pitcher...not to mention that Jimmy Rollins is one of the best SS in baseball.
You *were* given disadvantages. It's *your* problem you ignored them and won't respond to them. And now, you resort to name-calling. Funny, the rest of us have handled being disagreed with without calling people names and struggling with high blood pressure. Let me just add some coal to the fire, then: You're WRONG. And I'm right. (baaaaaaaaa)
The Phils would play Tejada at 3B. That would be a heck of an infield....Howard at 1B/Utley at 2B/Rollins at SS/Tejada at 3B.
