Yea - that would be a bitter-sweat moment - no Abreu but no Prior. Lane and Qualls for Abreu I like, but does Philly like?
Two months of Prior before his next season-ending injury doesn't scare me. Like Wood, Miller, and a host of others, his mechanics are an arm injury waiting to happen. Couple that with Dusty Flaker running the show (they didn't make a change, did they?), and there's not much to worry about.
Pirates about to get Sean Casey for Dave Williams....I've always liked Casey....but he wouldn't fit on our team.
Wow that's a steal. Dave Williams is a piece of junk. He just might make Eric Milton look half decent with his pitching skill.
I'd love to see D-train and Cabrera here. Tell clemens to take a hike and trade whatever we have to get these two guys.
Do they have a first baseman in the minors? If not, this likely signals an end to any Adam Dunn talk for now. It solves their outfield overcrowding problem.
And the Dodgers are about to Alfonso Soriano for a minor league pitcher...wow...he's gonna be playing in the OF too.....oh well...would have been nice
MLB Radio on XM: Buck Martinez mentioned that the astros had a 4 yr 40 mil offer on the table for Burnett. Same as the Cardinals offer. If this is accurate, it looks like we are at least trying. Though I'm glad we didn't waste that kind of cash on the likes of Burnett.
Just found this...... The Astros are leaning toward not offering Roger Clemens arbitration before Wednesday's deadline, something that would make him ineligible to pitch for the team before May 1. It wouldn't necessarily end his tenure in Houston. In fact, having Clemens debut in May might be best for both sides. If the Astros are willing to immediately begin spending the $18 million Clemens was due, a Bobby Abreu trade would become a greater possibility. A Manny Ramirez deal would be a real long shot, but even that would make some sense. Dec. 7 - 1:23 am et Source: FOXSports.com
Call me crazy but I'd rather have Manny than Bobby - assuming Manny costs us less in talent to be shipped out (more in $ but hey, it's not my money).
This is from another message board where one of the posters has been in Dallas all week for the meetings. http://www.sportsfrog.com/swamp/viewtopic.php?p=172039#172039
The potential problem as far as we are concerned there is that now they can move one of the 4 OF's that they have (probably Dunn) to 1B and don't necessarily have to trade him
The fact that they are basically taking any and all prospects.......not to mention Sergio Mitre was the best player inthe Pierre deal....means we better be in the hunt
Ideal Scenario: Do not sign Roger Sign Bengie Trade for Zito and Abreu Move Burke to SS Bagwell comes back strong Taveras Biggio Abreu Berkman Bagwell Ensberg Burke Molina then sign Roger in May and put him in the rotation end of May. Roy Andy Barry Roger that 6-8 kid Jason whatever
