...and based on that, if I'm Boston, Houston, or anyone else, I sign the guy to two years MAX, with mebbe a club option, at no more than $3M per. More likely $1.75M plus incentives.
http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051201/SPT05/512010315/1027 Reds are shopping their outfielders again. Would anyone trade Backe and Burke for Dunn?
agreed.....i really like Backe.....I'd rather see us use Backe to land a guy like Abreu or Manny if need be....but Backe and Burke for Dunn doesnt sound completely out of the question
Yeah, but the Reds won't give Dunn away. Personally, I rate Qualls ahead of Backe. Who else would you give them? Wheeler isn't sexy enough and Zeke is unproven. The new Reds' ownership doesn't want to look like it's taking a step back, so you know they want proven major leaguers in return. That being said, you don't want to give away the farm for a guy who strikes out a lot, doesn't excel on defense, and is a free agent in a few years anyway. I don't think Dunn has peaked yet as a hitter, but you need to be frugal.
You always have to consider dollars when dealing with Drayton. Dunn is still a few years away from Abreu/Manny money, so maybe Drayton can save a little by locking him up now, like he did with Berkman. Plus, like Berkman, Dunn is a local guy that Drayton can market. Manny, in particular, is bad press waiting to happen. That being said, the Sox are trying to give him away...
Is it safe to say that if we dont get an answer from Roger this weekend that we wont be very busy during the winter meetings next week?
No, as in only a few years from the date he signed it - like a 3 year contract, instead of the 5 years he actually got. Then he and his shoulder would've been able to retire gracefully. Instead, we get to see BS like this: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...1,1437373.column?coll=chi-sportscolumnist-hed
Yeah, I knew that's what you meant. But as it stands right now, he's a FA in a few years (and most importantly, I was just joshin' around).
I don't think Manny is that bad of a guy... its just that his antics get overblown in that east coast media blitz. Actually, the whole situation reminds me of T-mac with the Magic (I know I hate comparing sports... but the superstar/FA/impact players are pretty similiar in NBA and MLB). Manny would have no distractions here (cause nobody would be hanging on his every word... like they do in Boston or NY). He can just shut up and put up astro-nomical numbers in MMP... remember, he was a pretty quiet guy when he came up with the Indians.
Hey, I'm first in line for Manny. If you can get him for prospects (other than Troy Patton) and nothing else, I'd be thrilled. He doesn't just plug our biggest hole - he turns it into a strength. That being said, I don't think Uncle Drayton likes his attitude (no matter how overblown) and you know his contract would be hard for McLane to swallow.
what about Cabrera with the Marlins? They are dumping people. He's only 22. Plug him in left, move Berkman to 1st.
What if he costs you Nieve and Hirsch in addition to Qualls or Lidge and Burke? Disclaimer: msn doesn't know jack about what makes a good trade and rarely states things like the above because msn *knows* that msn will most likely sound just like the average radio-talk-show caller. bleah.
