yeah...there was hesitation, no doubt. but he started out talking about how they moved him from SS because there were concerns about his arm. but then seeing him play LF changed that some. which is exactly what a few of us have been saying about that.
I took it to possibly mean that he is comfortable going into the season with Burke as the LF if Bags can't play. Not sure if I am too happy about that...but we'll see.
maybe. but it certainly cracked open the door on him at SS. and i think he made the statement about him playing in the event of injury so as not to step on adam everett's toes. it's still very early. nomar is still available, too
could you tell how Justice goated him into answering that? Seems to me like they have been thinking the same thing since the world series that we have and that Everett could quite possibly be traded this offseason.
That, and the fact that the NBA has become horribly BORING, and that's not only because T-Mac is out and the Rockets look horrid. I used to enjoy watching the random TNT/ESPN national TV games... even if they were early season ones... but after having every single competitive juice, and every single one of my nerves rattled throughout the month of October by the Astros... no other sport seems even remotely interesting by comparison (actually, NFL and college FB are still great to watch... but its only once a week, so its not enough). The quality, national interest, and overall popularity of the NBA is really starting to concern me... arenas are half-empty, the "superstars" aren't household names anymore, and suddenly ESPN is showing hockey highlights before some of the b-ball games. Baseball, even if the Astros have a potentially disasterous off-season and a sub-par regular season, really can't come fast enough right now (of course, as soon as T-Mac comes back, and the Rockets start dominating... I'll be fine).
i said almost the very same thing this morning in an email exchange with RM95. it bothers me, because i've always really liked the NBA. a lot!!!! particularly the Rockets. and i'm rooting for them like crazy...but the game, itself, is killing me. very slow...very dull...quiet arenas. it's almost surreal.
Make your predictions! By January 2006 what will be talking about? --What are we going to get for AE now that Purpura signed Nomar? --How good will Rocket be this year? --What are we going to do about SP with Rocket gone? --etc, etc, Also, , what will "Plan A" have been, and what sort of "Plan B" will we be collectively clamoring for/arguing against by this time?
--We will trade AE for an AMC Pacer, a head of lettuce, and Shirley Hemphill. --Rocket will come back and and go 35-0 with a 0.30 ERA (Only runs given up due to AE's grand slams off of him) --We will sign Eric Anthony, Cameron Drew, and Andujar Cedeno. They will all hit .368 45 HR and 135 RBI.
Andujar Cedeno, a former shortstop for the Houston Astros, died on Oct. 28, 2000, when the Mercedes he was driving collided with a truck in the Dominican Republic. He died instantly from severe head injuries. He was 31.
Shirley Hemphill is also dead. No way we trade for her. She's not the answer. -------- United Press International 12-13-1999 Actress Shirley Hemphill dies at 52 LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 (UPI) _ Shirley Hemphill, best known for her role as the wiseacre waitress on the 1970s TV sitcom ``What's Happening!!'', has died at her home in Southern California. She was 52. The Los Angeles Times reports that Hemphill died Friday at her home in West Covina, apparently because she couldn't stay away from the all you can stand to eat-buffet. Born in Asheville, N.C., Hemphill was doing stand-up comedy in Los Angeles when she was spotted at the Comedy Store by producer Norman Lear and signed to the cast of "What's Happening?" HeyHey Hey.
If Shirley's out, then we got a dealbreaker....We'll have to get a player to be named later. Take your pick:
What about Reggie Sanders? If Baggy doesn't come back, that's a nice lineup. Now that Purpura has mentioned Burke at SS, this would work as an opening day lineup: CF-Taveras SS-Burke 1B-Berkman 3B-Ensberg LF-Sanders 2B-Biggio RF-Lane C-Ausmus SP-Oswalt
never. i'll never forgive him for his first inning curtain call in game one. NEVER! i don't care that the baseball gods struck him down and that his team eventually lost; it left a bad taste in my mouth.
