Wow, what an embarrassment (McNair quotes). Maybe that's something you think about as you sit in your recliner drinking your coffee...maybe, MAYBE you tell your wife? But to say that publicly, to be put in quotes, to be printed, for millions to see? What a loser.

Jim crane sure seems to be going down this path with this hire and the candidates for the gm that we have seen so far.

Did he ever lose four home games in a world series? :)

I didn’t follow Speier after his playing days, so know nothing about his coaching.

I do remember him as an Expo when I was a kid. Damn that makes me feel old.

Well, it was a great run, this sort of buffoonery would be so much easier to take if we would've finished the job against the Nats.

And Tim Wallach, and Andre Dawson. Bill Gullickson. Al Oliver, too? Raines was on that squad and so was Unit for a bit. Some pretty decent teams in the late 80s and early 90s.

Exactly. They were very solid. Don’t forget Gary Carter.

I don't like the move. I'd take any of our grandfathers before Baker. It feels like MLB is doing the hiring, that's a nice team Mr. Crane. It will be a shame if something happened to it.
I still think they'll get to the world series and hopefully win. I grew to love Hinch.
I will say this, we used to roll our eyes when Hinch wouldn't throw dirt on a kick aimed toward the umpire after a bad call,
things about to change. Maybe Alejandro will get 4 more steals.

I would like a younger manager. Dusty Baker is a good guy but a bit long in the tooth.

Yeah, this is clearly a stopgap PR hire and nothing else. The only thing Crane is trying to do here is appease his daddy, Rob Manfred.

Well, the Houston Astros will be the story in Baseball this year, some believe there is no such thing as bad publicity, the players will definitely get their spotlight moment next year, interesting to see how they perform under the intense media microscope.

Dusty will be a good shoulder for the players to cry on when they get roasted in opposing ballparks by other fans.

Can you imagine the beating on the seats or trash cans when we’re playing at an opposing stadium

The sky isn't falling. All of this was expected. In the short term I don't think it hurts the Astros much at all. Dusty Baker is fine as a manager. However the GM hire is a far bigger deal. Any concern I have for the Astros isn't this season or the next, it is leadership after that and no one knows how that will go good or bad.

If anything everyone is getting to see how things really work.

I guess I'm in the minority. I'm fine with Dusty. He strikes me like Wade Phillips. Good in short stints, and I don't mind him in Houston for 2-3 years while they're getting through the current period. I appreciate someone with a lot of experience who I know is ready to handle the media and will appropriately shield the players as needed as much as possible. I also think he'll bring his style, but also has to conform a bit to the team. They're talented, have a shot at a WS, and Dusty knows this is his last shot. He can't rock the boat a ton.

Agreed. The sky isn't falling. I was mocking those that think it is. People need to take a deeep breath and see how the season plays out.
