Exactly. Chan Ho Park, the worst in a long line of bad pitching decisions by Texas.

Lower sponsor still millions of dollars, and the guy is not just an executive but also has personal ties with the team and their executives, but like i said it, don't believe me if you don't want too, after all i have zero credibility.

/By the way, im also one of those people that won't believe till i see, but i'm really sure about this one, that same guy told me about the Pettite and Clements deal like two weeks before it went down.

Good stuff sums...I hope you are right.

I was starting to doubt us getting him given the fact that he wanted to see a commitment to winning. After Berkman got hurt (thus potentially limiting his ability for part of the season) and then letting kent go, I didnt think Beltran would think we were trying...I know it didnt look that great to me.

I just hope Kent doesnt end up in St L now that Womack is gone.

I know what you mean, i hope Kent goes to the American league. Or else i can see him having good games against the Astros.

We could easily make up for the loss of Kent by trading Miller to Texas for Soriano and picking up Woody Williams to be the fourth starter.

    My $.02:

Drayton should not agree to any major deals this year (including Beltran). It's time to sit and wait to see which one of these elite players are legitimate. Players that are using steroids will be a shell of themselves next year and I would hate to sign a player to a major contract and then find that player comes into camp slower, smaller,... I would use that reported 13 million on numerous players. Just my $.02. I have been on Drayton's arse for about 7 years now... I would not disagree with letting Beltran go this year. It would be a wise decision to diversify!

Beltran doesn't have the steroid body. That 13 million is going to be used for 1 player, and 1 player only, Carlos Beltran. Its a special situation.

Yea, plus the union and league are getting together right now to hammer out a major strict drug/steroid policy. I'm sure either...

    a) They give him a complete look over with physical AND drug test.

    b) If he signs and then gets caught using steroids, there will be a clause in the contract that will get them out paying him anymore.

I hope you are right. I just don't think Boras would agree to anything like that (b).

I never said he was on steroids. I just said I wouldn't want to take the risk at this point.

i would imagine he wouldnt have a choice...if baseball caught him, or anyone else, and banned him, he would forfeit everything...then again, baseballs player union is the strongest union in the nation...so I cant see them agreeing to anything like that

Anything is possible at this point and, the fact the union was VERY willing to meet with the league for the very reason of installing a stricter drug/steroid policy, says alot. There already tons of talk about the Yankees could have a loop hole to get out of Giambi's contract due to his steroid use and, I would think after recent events, owners/GMs are going to make sure they put something in the contract that allows them not to get burned if the player is found with enhancing products before they fork over the big money.

Anyone watching sportscenter? I just heard this: Which California team will Carlos Beltran be playing for next year?

Why do they automatically assume we have no chance?

    bigboy,

I understand the thought of being precautious, but this mode of thinking is absurd.

    Gunn,
I am not sold on Beltran. I think he got hot at the right time. I would not risk signing him to a Boras type contract. I would prefer to use that money to sure up the rest of the team. I would sign him to a reasonable deal but not what Boras is asking for.

Say this then, instead of using the steriod worry excuse.

I just did... But, if I was Drayton, I would definitely consider the timing of Beltran's contract.
