only a fool would deny that Giambi's "health problems" are directly correlated with the fact that he is injecting hormones and steroids into his abdomen, rear end, and tongue. he had glandular problems, stomach parasites, eye problems. all of these could easily be linked to his steroid use...
Only a fool would deny that had Giambi done steriods right in front of George Steinbrenner and had a wonderful 2004 season, George wouldn't blink an eye. The only reason why the Yankees are dumping him is that he has health issues. The steroids being the cause of it has no bearing on the team's desire to dump him.
dude, i can see where glandular problems will correlate with steroids, but stomach parasites? eye problems? it's not like takin steroids is going to all of a sudden make your GI tract a safehaven for tapeworms and the like...
I think he got confused between anabolic steriods (what Giambi is taking) and cortico-steriods (what the doctor often prescribes). Eye problems (cataracts) and weird infections can be a problem with extreme use of cortico-steroids.
These dopes were taking female fertility drugs like clomid...for all we know, they could cause a multitude of things
Did I hear it right on Fox today? about the Astros offering BELTRAN 5yr $70million?? is that a joke? He's probably laughing at that offer if it was true.
I just read about the 70 million on the astros website, it said that the contract would make Beltran the second highest player in Astros history behind Bagwell, he needs to be the highest paid or no deal IMO. Well at least the wait is over, bye bye Beltran, hello Jason Lane. Not that bad of a thing, Lane needs the chance to play everyday.
We may or may not be the favorites for Beltran, but if the offer is true, it's no reason to give up hope. The important thing to remember is that this is Scott Boras. We could actually make the 200 for 10 offer, and he'd still ask for a lot more money. Boras will force you to increase whatever initial offer you make to get one of his players, and teams have learned to anticipate that. So to counteract that, teams have to make their initial offers a little low because they know they're going to have to raise them to have any chance. If you start with 70 million, Boras sees 100, and if you start with 100 million, Boras sees 130, and so on. The Astros have to save their best offer for later on, because there's no way any of these first offers are going to be accepted. By the way, this is the part of the astros.com article that talks about the offer: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASAp...206&content_id=918757&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp
I wonder if the Astros would be more willing to up the years or the yearly salary. At Beltran's age, I think the Astros are pretty safe offering a 6-7 year deal. I doubt they will come up much on the yearly figure though. Fortunately, I don't see many teams offering much more than that on a per year basis.
This is a good start, you have to have a starting point in negotiations and IMO there will be a counter offer and this number will increase slightly.
14 million a year is right on par with what Vladimir Guerrero, Jim Thome and Albert Pujols received since the new CBA agreement. Looks like a good and fair offer to me.
good negotiating. we give boras and beltran the message that we have pegged his per year salary appropriately. They can field offers and see if we're on target. We are. the next step will be to haggle over the number of years. By offering 5 years, the message is that the debate will be whether Beltran gets 7 or 8 in the final deal (the midpoint between 5 and 10. Clearly, we will be prepared to go to 7. The question is whether we get pushed into an 8th year. Whether we get Beltran or not, I like Purpura's MO.
what in the world are you talking about??? that's a GREAT offer!!! putting him on par with players who, frankly, have shown more than he has. namely, Vlad and Pujols. if he gets that kind of money, he ought to thank his lucky stars!
