HE JUST MADE IT WORSE!!! It was reported as fact...like an imminent thing. BEST GUESS??? That's what we're getting??? Hell, I have a best guess!!! Why do the article at all, if all you're doing is making a best guess??? There is no story at all here! None at all. Just a guy with a guess. Ridiculous.
Justice is the typical "say something just to say something" kind of writer. Say something stupid, people call him on it, and then for better or for worse everyone knows his name. No such thing as bad publicity.
Will you stop already, please? You are crying over spilled milk. His original article said "the Astros are set to offer 13.5 million" it and he did not say the Astros made such an offer. You know, for someone who claims to be a lawyer you don't appear to be too good at paying attention to details, or the fine print so to speak. It seems to me that this article was a "riot control" piece for all the people such as yourself who prematurely overreacted before even reading what the article had to say.
gunn... he wrote the astros were prepared to offer $13.5 million. he wrote that, and said it was based on discussions with club officials. he didn't say, "i think they might.." he didn't say, "it's my opinion.." you know why?? because that wouldn't be newsworthy. he made the splash...and then 4 days later calls the news outlets who followed suit, "silly, silly, silly" for paying attention to what he wrote. i guess he was right there. and i bet no one in media circles takes his "articles" all that serious, again. this wasn't posted as an editorial...it was a news article that appeared in the top section of the chronicle's website that afternoon. breaking news...richard justice THINKS the astros are going to offer $13.5 million? eh...save me the time. and lose the attitude.
Max, Again you are wrong. He did say the Astros were "prepared to offer 13.5 million", but he did not call the other media outlets "silly, silly, silly" for paying attention to what he wrote. He called them silly because they did what you and others did by taking what he wrote and running with it, assuming (in your case) and writing that the Astros had made such an offer, which he never claimed. There is a difference between prepared to offer and actually making an offer. Relax, take a deep breath, and think before you react.
gunn -- i read the article just as it was written. they're prepared to make that offer. you don't write that and then come back and say, "I think they're prepared to offer that." He made that change the second time around, because the Astros called his bluff and said, "ummmm...no we're not!" this guy has a history of this. i find that to be irresponsible. if you're going to print your opinion, do it in your weekly column. his own outlet printed it as breaking news. there's a huge difference. again...back off the attitude, internet tough guy.
wasn't trying to be a jerk...my argument wasn't predicated on my perceptions of his intellect. everytime the guy comes on here he calls me out personally. enough is enough. it's tired.
Max, You seem to be backtracking such as you say Justice has. I call you out, and you appear to alter you stance. I'm not bringing any malice towards you. But you seem to think that their is attitude when I point out your outlandish overreactions and theories. Again, relax, take a deep breath, and think before you react.
Gunn: I don't know if you're letting your personal animosity towards MadMax drive this argument, but let's be honest here... Justice said "the Astros are prepared to offer 13.5mill" - there's no other damn way to read that other than that the Astros are gonna offer 13.5mill. There's none of this 'best guess' bullsh*t in there, the dumbass acted like he knew, got caught, and tried to cover it up. He's a journalist, he needs to start showing some professionalism because his act has gotten tired.
yup. when i read the article, Justice made it seem as if the Astros were going to make him that offer. period. i don't see how you could see it any other way. it's not our job to try and decipher what he's actually saying.... if he's just speculating, then that's what he should write.
I love passionate internet arguments about samantics... gunn, this is all pretty silly, don't you think?
... And I love passionate internet arguments about spelling. Almost as fun as haggling over semantics.
I agree as well. He made it seem as the 'stor's HAVE offered 13.5 mill to Beltran. & once again Justice is an ASS!
Justice is not the total ass that he is often portrayed as being around here...he probably has more national respect amongst the media than any other Houston based writer. Having said that, I think Justice got caught pulling a Vescey. I read his article as something based on informed sources, not one guy's opinion.
