It will most likely happen at the GM meetings next week.

Great news and a very fair respectable offer. I heard something the other day about the next closest offer to the Rangers was 50mill less for A-Rod I do not want the Stros to end up overpaying.

As for the rest give Kent the two years if he'll stay yeah Burke needs some playing time but we have a very small window with Biggio/Bagwell/maybe Clemens. I want to see Kent in there for the last hurrah. Burke can have all the playing time he wants when Biggio, Kent, and Bagwell go.

I'd love to see Finley and or Williams on this team. If Beltran doesn't resign give Finley the two year deal. As I mentioned before this club is designed to win now.

Finally just an idea I was kicking around the other day. There doesn't seem to be a huge market for Garciappara. Everything I've read says a 1-2 year deal for modest money so he can prove he's fully recovered. Someone is going to get a huge steal next year and I'd love to see him on the Stros. How about packaging Wade Miller and Adam Everett to the Rangers for Soriano and some bull pen help? Let Kent walk and resign Beltran.

    Biggio
    Beltran
    Garciappara
    Soriano
    Bagwell
    Berkman
    Lamb
    Ausmus
    Pitcher

Tell me that lineup doesn't make you drool? This probably isn't financially feasible though you'd be losing Kent, Miller, Everett, and maybe Clemen's salaries.

Apparently, 610 is reporting that the Chronicle is COMPLETELY wrong about both Beltran and Kent. No offer has been made to Beltran although one will be made in the near future and the report of the offer to Kent is incorrect.

Hmm... but what good will it do when Richard Justice gets on John and Lance's show, and says "the Astros DID make the offer..."

Then, techinically, 610 will be 'reporting' that the offer was in fact made.

I'm sure the radio folks are goin simply by what the Astros are saying publicly... whereas Justice is goin by all the stuff that's been said 'off the record.'

There's no way the Astros want this stuff leaked, I guess, but sometimes, you can't keep a sniffin dog like Richard Justice down.

Why would the Devil Rays trade a more than promising outfielder for a pitcher who hasn't shown he can stay healthy?

Please read the article again. No where does it say that any offer has been made to Beltran. It will most likely take place at the GM meetings next week. Boras has said lately that is where he will begin to take offers.

I, too, have learned to take Richard Justice's writings with a grain of salt. However, there is nothing to lead us to believe that 610 is any more right.

610 is reporting those aren't the terms.

I'm inclined to believe 610 since the Astros are notoriously tight lipped about roster moves and contract negotiations.

Plus I find it hard to believe that anyone would leak information to someone like Justice.

Of course, things may have changed since Hunsicker is gone.

i know its justice and i also think he is wrong most of the time, but how could u just make up a number at random. i could see him predicting the future incorrectly but a made up offer seems like an extremely dumb thing to do

Jose Cruz Jr. will be 31 in April 2005. He has never hit higher than .275 and his lifetime average is .250. Exactly why is he a promising outfielder?

Isn't 31 relatively young in baseball?

31 in baseball is like 28-29 in basketball. You've reached your prime and are about to stard heading downwards, except in rare cases.

justice was on 610 this morning. i didnt get a chance to hear all he said, but it didnt sound too promising on the beltran front. i think his words were "boras is on mars, while drayton and purpura are on venus" when speaking about how close the two sides are. according to justice, boras is still looking for that 10 year / $200 million deal. and he doesnt want beltran to make anything less than what bagwell is getting (i think he makes $17 million a year).

    :(

That pretty much does it for me. Richard Justice is the worst journalist in Houston. The guy can't stick to a story for 1 freaking day. One article makes it seem like Beltran is the Astros to lose and then he says they aren't on the same planet? And they called John Kerry a flip-flopper? This guy's picture is next to the definition of flip-flop in the dictionary.
