i think our pitching will be fine with starters oswalt, pettitte, clemens and our young guys and relievers lidge, wheeler, qualls, etc.
We don't need Carl Crawford. If anything, we need a left handed power bat in the middle of the order. But I doubt we make a move, payroll is already 3rd highest in the majors.
man our bullpen sucks. hopefully garner moves nieve to the pen now that rocket is back. oh yea we definately need a bat for our offense too.
Oh I was...I just couldn't believe someone would actually take the time to type something so incredibly asinine. Carl Crawford is one of the up and coming stars in MLB today. Are we that set in our outfield rotation that we don't "need" him? Now, had you said something like, "If it's between getting Carl Crawford or some solid bullpen help, I'll take bullpen help" that would've made more sense. But to say that we don't "need" Carl Crawford...well, that's pretty comical. Maybe that's it...maybe you were just bored and thought you'd just post something to post it. Oh well...I needed a good laugh today.
We need someone to step up and fill Bagwell's shoes, if that's possible. I think Lamb is doing a great job.
The whole idea of necessity is flawed in this discussion. The Astros don't need to add anybody to be successful.
Our number one tradeable commodity at this point is Jason Hirsh... and he just happens to be on an amazingly good streak at AAA right now, culminating in his performance last night: 8 IP, 12 K's, 3H, 0 ER (1 unearned). Now, the Brewers are known to be actively shopping Carlos Lee... with the explicit demand that they get young, MLB-ready pitching in return. Also, btw, Hirsh's dominating performance was at the expense of Milwaukee's AAA team (so they probably were scouting a guy who just threw his best career game thus far). This isn't an official rumor or anything... but just something that could make sense... Hirsh for Carlos Lee (who is a FA, but signable). Discuss.
Both sides of the argument have merits. In favor of getting Lee.... this is our last season with the trifecta of Roy, Roger, and Andy. Drayton has invested alot of money into this one shot at a title, so it makes sense in an all or nothing type of way. If we resign Lee, it also makes sense for the future considering he's relatively young, and can fill a hole in the outfield as far as production goes. In favor of keeping Hirsh... this is our last season with the trifecta of Roy, Roger, and Andy. Next year the rotation looks very sketchy. Hirsh could step right in and produce. He's also going to be cheap for the foreseable future. He has the potential to be a dominator. It's a judgement call, and I think it will depend on where the team is in the standings in late July.
Well, under his scenario, Ensberg would no longer be an everyday player... that isn't something the club is thinking about right now.
I like the lineup on Saturdays game not including the DH 2bBiggio cfTaveras lfBurke rfBerkman 3bEnsberg 1bLamb caAusmus ssEverett But I think Scrap Iron is doing a good job of mixing things up, hopefully to wake this team up. But by August I hope we can find the right lineup of guys
