Could Scott do worse than Lane? Sure, but not by much....worth a shot on Scott....

New York Post - "The Phillies will listen to offers for Bobby Abreu and Pat Burrell. Milwaukee's Carlos Lee, K.C.'s Reggie Sanders, Oakland's Jay Payton and Bobby Kielty, Pittsburgh's Craig Wilson and San Diego's Dave Roberts could be available. As could San Francisco's Pedro Feliz, Toronto's Frank Catalanotto and Washington's Jose Guillen. "

Wow guys, I see a couple of players on that list that could surely help the Houston Astros for the 2006 pennant drive. Right away my eyes noticed Bobby Abreu and Carlos Lee.

What are the chances the Brewers trade Carlos Lee to a division-rival ? Probably not good, especially considering the Brewers figure to be alive in the playoff / wild card race deep into the season. However, we have had history trading with the Brewers before. If I recall, back in 2002, we made a trade to acquire Mark Loretta from the Brewers. I don't recall the specifics of that trade, but I believe it involved Keith Ginter and Wayne Franklin Jr. But the dynamics were totally different, as the Brewers weren't that good at the time, and they had no postseason aspiration.

Anyway, the Phillies are also contenders and should be in the wild card race, if not the NL EAST race towards the end of the season. It makes me wonder which teams will actually trade away those outfielders, if they are in the playoff race.

But hmm, besides the big money-makers in Bobby Abreu and Carlos Lee, is there any other outfielders on that list that looks tempting ?

I'd take Craig Wilson or Jay Payton on their past performances...don't know how they're doing this year, but it's surely better than Lane and probably better than P. Wilson. Could use C. Wilson in left to hide some of his deficiencies (defense, mobility)

xishi, isn't Jose Guillen kind of like Richard Hidalgo ? Unless I'm mistaken, he also has a strong arm in the field ? And also, Jose Guillen played with the Nationals last season with Preston Wilson. We might as well re-unite the two of them. If we added Jose Guillen, and Preston Wilson heats up, along with Ensberg and Berkman. We could have a formidable lineup. But hey, what about Craig Wilson from the Pirates ? I don't want to see him go to the Cardinals, but how good is he ? Is he worth a look ?

You know what though xishi, I had a dream earlier this morning that the Astros defeated the Yankees in 6 games in the 2006 World Series. And we had Bobby Abreu who went on a rampage in the 2006 World Series. He hit .400 with 5 homeruns and 17 RBI in the 6 games vs Yankees, and was named MVP of the 2006 World Series for the Astros. So if my dream has any credibility, I think we should try to trade for Bobby Abreu.

Hmm, off-topic a little bit, but I mentioned on my AOL sports blog that Albert Pujols getting injured as a possibility for the Astros to win the NL CENTRAL in 2006. And Albert Pujols got injured in this game vs the Cubs on Fox today.

The injury sounds a little serious because Tony LaRussa mentioned " a pop " in his injury. It was a pop in his rib-cage as I later found out watching the Cardinals vs Cubs game on FOX. Yeah, bummer if Albert Pujols is hurt, but it could be good for the Astros to get back in the NL CENTRAL race. Noone knows yet how many games, if at all that Albert Pujols will miss. Too early to really tell. But a pop in rib-cage area can't be a good thing.

you're high if you think the astros will take on that contract with a payroll already in excess of $100 million.

Ignoring finances, this is the guy I wanted before the season. He's the perfect solution in the lineup. Left-handed, good average, good on-base, good power. And, a career of being substantially better with people on (for whatever reason). Essentially, everything we're missing.

This team is lost and someone forgot to enter the numbers. Another bat? Hell...we need brain surgery at this point. It's all in the mind. This team is good at psyching itself out. They need a team psychiatrist.

I am sure that Jeff Bagwell, even with his bom shoulder, can do better than half of the players in this lineup (batting wise). It is just terrible to watch Lane especially.

Since the insurance thing is not looking good for Dreyton, why not just give Bagwell a chance soon? How worse can he be? Is making the throw from first the biggest issue? how many times has that even come up so far in this season?

    FREE JEFF BAGWELL.

I am a little element of regret must have crept into Roger Clemens' mind right about now

    Tim Pup remains an enigma.

Everybody that's playing GM needs to just chill.

Purpura's job is to make sure the team wins.

He's smarter than most of you.

    Chill.

By all means, let's trade for Preston Wilson. He is exactly what this team needs and without adoubt will lead us in a second-half-of-the-season resurgence!!!

frankly i put the blame of the current funk more on the starting pitching than anything else.
