It's a bad stretch but you still have to look at the season. Devo and Rondon both have ERA's in the 4.00.

We have to stop making excuses for him.

That seems like a really arbitrary timeframe. You could also split it up to:

    May 24-27: ERA of 15 (3 innings)
    May 28 - Aug 10: ERA of 2.87 (22 innings)
Aug 11: ERA of 40 (2/3rds of an inning)

And I really don't want to, his numbers over 2+ months show he's struggling. The pitch location wasn't that bad on the HR, at the bottom of the zone. Had there not been 3 consecutive breaking balls before that, it may have struck him out. As another poster said, a high fastball would have been nice right there but Chirinos wasn't giving up on that pitch selection.

That’s why you have to look at it over a longer period of time.

Why not look at the whole season then? May 24 is a completely arbitrary date chosen to skew the data.

Perhaps but it’s over 11 weeks, just shy of 3 months. That’s a pretty substantial window. We’re getting past the point of being able to keep taking chances with him, especially with the Yankees and Dodgers right there fighting with us for the best record. Mind you he also just coughed up the game against the team with the worst home record in baseball.

Sure - but as of an hour ago, your data says he was a terrible closer since May 24th. It also says he's was a really good closer since May 28th. So what does that really tell us?

Also, who is the non-risky alternative that you propose, since we don't have the flexibility to take chances?

McCullers won’t be back until next season.

Its doubtful unless his stuff no longer is good enough to start.

It's pretty simple. Just switch Pressly and Osuna.

I don't think they will be changing horses at this point.

He's been worse than Osuna the last 2+ months.

Osuna came in to today’s game with an era of 2.50 and had saved 26/30.

He pitched poorly today and the pitch calling was questionable but it was one game... coming off 8 straight wins.

It has been less than two weeks... and tonight was the first time since May that he has give up more than one run in an appearance.

Those are some some ugly stats for a closer. We can't afford that type of performance once we reach the playoffs. Maybe if Peacock is healthy make him the closer. Try something. I even trust Will Harris more that I trust Osuna. Pressley overall is probably the best choice to give a shot at closing. Assuming he is completely over his injury.
