Mount Rushmore of Astros who played less than a full season: Unit, Beltran, Castilla...and I'm blanking on a 4th Mount Rushmore of Total Disappointment (non-injury division): Andujar Cedeno, Swindell, Redding, Jim Clancy Mount Rushmore of Total Disappointment (injury division): Richard, Carlos Hernandez, Thon...Cameron Drew?
My reasoning is based on eras and how hard it is to compare different eras. Wynn 60/70s Nolan 80s Bags 90s Altuve post 2000 After reading the post it is hard to go wrong with many of the other names... dierker 60s; Mike scott, glenn davis 80s; biggio 90s; puma, oswalt, springer post 2000. We should do a d'antoni 7 man playoff rotation to make this exercise easier.
What-if: If we kept Ausmus, Alou doesn't get hurt, and we trade Bell + Elarton for Roger Clemens. We'll never know. Instead, 1999 ended up being just another one of the waaaaaay too many Yankee championships.
Yeah, those 2 seasons are automatic disqualifiers. Huff had the most snakebit couple of months I've ever seen. Couldn't buy a hard hit ball to go anywhere but 2 feet foul or right at someone. It was ridiculous, but he still had a good stint in Houston. So maybe you're right. Hirsch was a good but not great prospect. I certainly thought he was going to be very good, then he decided to be a finesse pitcher instead of throwing ball through a wall. It was Hidalgo + Elarton for Roger, then the Hendricks Brothers demanded a massive contract extension. That's when Hunsicker blew his top. That's what I remember at least... @Nook ?
Boom. There ya go. Was he worse than Clancy (who replaced Ryan) or Swindell (who helped turn Drayton off of FA spending) or Redding (million dollar arm, ten cent head)? eta: Jeff Juden deserves a mention here Andujar Cedeno was the #1 prospect in baseball at one point, so he's a lock. Nevin, btw. The Neville Brothers are great.
How about Mt Rushmore for players who sucked/underachieved here but went elsewhere then shined much harder. JD Martinez, Joe Morgan, Steve Finley, and Luis Gonzalez
That's where Curt Schilling comes in, he was a total knucklehead in Houston. Hell, you could put Nevin on that mountain too. Curt, JD, Nevin, and hmmmm.... Or is there a Mount Rushmore of Gave Up Too Soon?: Abreu, Lofton, Schilling, Morgan
