"Anyway, the pitcher who most should have thrown a no-hitter, but didn't, is not Clemens but Don Sutton. Sutton's hits/innings ratio is only a little higher than Clemens (7.99 to 7.73), but he had 150 more starts than Clemens entering this season. Which is frigging amazing, since Clemens has been pitching since the Civil War. Clemens may have passed him on this list (expected no-hitters) this season . . . don't know, but it would be close. (He did pass him. Clemens after 2004 is at 0.936)." -Neyer
Floyd moving to the mound after Oswalt BEAMED Floyed. Garner was just up there asking Oswalt if he wants to walk Floyed to face Piaza. Oswalt threw a high fastball. Both benches emptied.
These 2 teams have a history of fights. This should be a fun series from here on out. Maybe the'Stros will finally wake up and play with some heart.
Bases Loaded for the damn Mets. Beltran hit, HB Floyed....Piaza walk. Oswalt doesn't seem to have his control today, and yet it's only a 1 run game! Come on get this out, then STROS get some RUNS! EDIT: Nevermind.......Morgan should of had that. Damnit. Oswalt out. Qualls in.....I'm done with listening to this on the radio....
At least Burke got us 1 run.... we've been shut-out this year by far worse pitchers than Pedro. I think all "elite" AL pitchers should petition to come to the NL.... they would all be amazing here. If you don't believe it, just look at Clemens and Pedro this year compared to what they were doing in the AL the last 3 years.
Well that's my second Astros road game of the season (I went to one in Miami a little more than a month ago) and it's just the same story. This time they actually looked 10x better than when I saw them against Florida, but they're so amazingly flat. When is it time to fire Gaetti? Is it a possibility? I remember how he was such a great coach last season before they brought him in and once he arrived, the team played phenomenal. But outside of Biggio and Ensberg, I don't see much [improvement] whatsoever. And let it be known that Everett sucks worse than Ausmus, in my opinion. This was also the second straight Pedro start (somewhat coincidentally; I went last week and I definitely wanted to make it to at least one Astros game this series and since it was Pedro vs. Oswalt, why not?). I'm going to say this right now: if Pedro doesn't start the AS game in Detroit, it's a travesty. I don't even think Dontrelle is as great as "Petey" (thanks to the Mets fans for saying that 1000000 times during the game) at this point in the season (but Dontrelle is still great; now that I think about it, the game I saw in Florida had Dontrelle pitching). Pedro absolutely dominated Arizona last week and kept it up in great fashion (then again, I suppose you could throw a wiffle ball underhand right down the middle of the plate and these Astros will still strike out -- looking). And I just love Oswalt's attitude, with hitting Floyd of course. He's definitely learned from Clemens. But I think the thing that most stood out was the ending (yes, I actually endeared the horrid Astros after I was given hope with a rarity...OFFENSE?!?!?...nah, I never leave a game early regardless). I personally can't remember the last time ANY team went down with three strikeouts LOOKING. Honestly, if you were to put Kirby Puckett out there (blindfol...oh, no nevermind) and told him there was a cop arresting him for sexual harrassment, he would have an easier time getting hits than these Astros. oh and I apologize in advance to any Kirby Puckett fans ==== The question is, do I go to tomorrow and/or Thursday's game as well? I got in free tonight (some random dude just handed me a ticket which was awesome), but tomorrow I'm really thinking of checking out Darryl Strawberry's stand-up comedy instead. And no, I'm not even joking. Check it out. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either, haha.
Come on Biggio. You look like a 40 year old second baseman out there. I hope Cliff Floyd broke his hand.
we are getting chances here....but too many LOB. Man...that's the 3rd time that guy has walked today!
Backe has had quite a few good starts in a row now. Him, Wheeler, and Ensberg are the big bright spots for me thus far.
Exactly. It's pretty obvious now that last season was the fluke season for Ensberg, and not the season before. Backe has been great, I love the guy. He reminds me of some of our Rockets, who don't shy away from showing their emotions and being a cheerleader.
